Does the 2g rear spoiler serve a purpose?

I remember a TV program a few years ago that said that most of the spoilers on cars were there only for looks and served no practical purpose. People, especially men, wanted spoilers on their cars so manufacturers put them on regardless without regard for aerodynamics.

Anyone know if the 2g eclipse spoilers give an aerodynamic advantage? Anyone take theirs off?

OK, let's see a real picture.
What reactions do you get?
What kind of a mess was the paint underneath?

Ok, here are some actual FACTS (I know, a radical concept around here). My friend's teacher designed the 2g eclipse. Everything that is there is functional aerodynamically, down to the tail lights. Yes, even the tail lights.

And the purpose of a spoiler is not to add downforce, it is to reduce lift. Downforce is a totally different concept altogether. :thumb:
