well i changed my rear diff a couple days ago and man.... those fawkin bolts were hard to get off!!!anyways the first cup or so of the fluid was thick nasty blackness and then it thinned out. the magnet plug was coated!! and i mean COATED w/black soft crud.the crud must have been like 1/4 inch thick around the whole bolt!!! :barf: anyways i noticed that my rear diff was super rusted on the outside...another kid said it looked like it was picked up from the titanic LOL! how deep does "just" surface rust get? i hit it a few times to see how much would fall off and seemed like a good chunk chipped off... you guys know a way to like, test it? :talon:

yes..... a good way to test the strength and durability is to continuasly hit it with a big ass hammer until it cracks, then breaks in a lot of pieces, then buy a new one!

No seriously, id take it off completely, have it sanblasted, then repainted or coater or sometin like than and maybe rebuild it too.
