Day 1
Only got like 2-3 hours of work in since I had to fix my dad's car too. Got the radiator, downpipe, and turbo setup off so far. Glancing at the valves it looks like cylinder 4 has some beat up valves, which is no surprise since there's a giant hole in front of where the 4th rod would be. Turbo was pulled while attached to the manifold, so I didn't get a chance to pull the feed line to inspect the center shaft for damage.
There was a good bit of wiring that looked like it might have gotten singed (slightly melted insulation). I need to remember to take a better look at them to make sure nothing got damaged. If that's the case I'll probably loom them properly this time and call it a day. Otherwise it'll be an awesome wiring project to redo half my engine bay harness.

Currently I'm looking at two motors on sale. Specs for anyone who care--
Almost perfect setup.. just unsure of the Manley pistons. Something proven like a Wiseco 1400HD would've been ideal. The information I've about the pistons is that they're a 2618 alloy with 22mm wrist pins, 0.210" thick (vs. 0.225 on the Wisecos) but made of 9310 alloy (vs. chromoly on the Wisecos.. which is actually a weaker material).
Light as hell bottom end. Would rev a lot better. Not sure about the specs on the Mahles though other than that they're ~300g vs 330 on the Manleys and ~350 for the Wisecos.
This next week I'll hopefully be getting a cherry picker from Jimmer since his grandma's pissed he took over her garage. I'm going to try to take out the surge tank and intake manifold, and basically get the car ready to drop the transmission out first, and then the motor.
