DO I need EPROM for S-AFC?

I'm looing to do some base tuning on my '95 Talon TSI AWD with a JDM 6 bolt swap. Now will I need an EPROM ECU to use an Apexi S-AFC? I have no idea personally as I am quite new to this, and haven't been able to find the answer anywhere.

The safc is a piggyback device that will work with an eprom or a non eprom ecu. It basically intercepts the signal from your mass airflow sensor and allows the user to trick the ecu into thinking it's getting more or less air. If the ecu thinks it's getting less air it will take away fuel (leaner), if the ecu thinks it's getting more air it will add fuel (richer). You will need some type of datalogger to determine how much and at what rpm you want to add/subtract fuel.

Sweet, thanks for the help. It prolly seemed like a stupid question, but I don't know jack about the tuning things.

ANother somewhat "stupid" question, but My car is a 2g with a swapped 6bolt. Will it be using the 2g ECU still? When I get a datalogger, will I be looking for a 2g cable? Or 1g cable? And is there a way to tell on the ecu which one it is?

I'm assuiming it would be using a 1g ECU simply because of the lack of OBD-II controls and whatnot on the 1g motor. Buttttt, I would like to make sure.

Yeah Steve is right on the money. With a 2g 6 bolt swap the ecu "should" be the 2g ecu. I'm not sure how to check for the differences between the 1g and 2g ecu's. I'm sure the info is around here somewhere.

You will always use a 2g ecu with a 6bolt swap. The stock 98 ecu that was in my car had a black colored plastic cover. The 95 eprom I have in my car now has a gold colored metal case. You do not need a eprom ecu to hook up an afc. Just good directions and common sense. Its not hard to solder up the wires but you will need to make sure it is grounded correctly or you will fry it. Personally, I am ditching the afc for dsmlink. I have done all I could with the afc and I see more gains to come with the dsmlink, like better timing and drivability with the ability to see knock instead of that stock boost gauge conversion.
