DIY Crank Scraper

Hi there, anyone have any experience with DIY Crank scraper? What material should use??? Can I use just mild steel plate or just stainless steel 2-3mm plates for the job???

I've heard of chromoly material. But they are hardly available in my country? Please help.

not a good idea. the spacing between the scrapper and crank is minascule. its purpose is to scrape the oil off the crank to make it lighter in its rotation. off just a hair could mean no good.

unless of course you have a cnc machine, know how to write the program, and know the exact size and measurements.

I'm doing some Mock up on a damaged engine on the floor. Taking all the measurement and will be writing program to operate a NC laser cutting machine and a bending machine.

But, I need to know what material would be good to use that are easily available. Can mild steel/ stainless steel 1/8 " sheet be used??

i run a cnc laser at work at personally i dont think it would be worth the risk vs. cost effective. new programs tend to be off and normally there is a mm or two tollerance in parts that mm or two could cause tremendous damage.

Thanks for the advice. But I can increase the clearance. Not to scrap off the oil completely, but to reduce the oil winding. I was thinking of making it as production to sell in my country for Mitsubishi 4G9x engines. There are just not many aftermarket parts for 4G9X. And they cost expensive.

Need to know the material to be used. But anyway, was just thinking if they are possible...

if it were me id use something like 16 gauge its kinda flimsy until you bend it or maybe 13 gauge. also idk how well galvanized steel would work in an engine but id use it if you could its probably cheaper than stainless

no offense, but building your own crank scraper is not a good idea unless you have a model to go after. If you mess up, and the tolerance is miniscule, and it will do the opposite of what is intended and could also create another wear part.

I can always increase the clearance to avoid moving part colision. At least, it done better than having the oil winding around under the pistons. Of course, also to allow sufficient drainage from the top.

But what I'm more concern of is the material to be used. Just milt steel plate does the job?

Will the expansion n contraction of the plate causes the main studs to loosen up??
