I bought a 2g with a 6 bolt swap and i am unsure of the year of the motor. Does it really matter which dipstick i have?

I'm not sure if they are all the same length but you might want to check that also. Wrong length of dipstick will cause false reading of oil.

well my friends 90 tsi awd was the same length and fit fine...

i guess its a 4g63t thing

Both should work, Mine were interchangable on my 6 bolt swap.

All DSM dipsticks are the same length, even the N/T ones. I'm currently using a 1G N/T dipstick in my 98-- I checked the length side-by-side and they're identical.
