I have a 95 gsx, but i'm looking to step to a newer platform (99 gsx) i found one in increadable condition (1999 GSX with 26k on the od, been sittin in this guys garage for 2 years) the guy wants 15,000 & I'm pretty willing to pay that much for it (only 1k over high book & it comes with rims/sterio gages afc etc..)

anyway, question is: aside from body kit differences & improved "anti crank walk" methods, are there any major differences between the 95 & 99?

I haven't come across anything major yet, I use to have a 95 GSX it was stolen and I replaced it with a 99 GSX.

Some 95's have eprom ecu, on 95/96 the CAS is on the crank where 97+ the cas is on the intake cam. Other then that its just bodykit, mounting, and wireing for the lights. Im sure there are other minor differences but none that make any real difference.

Ahh, well i'm pullling the eprom ECU out of my 95 and sticking the 99 ecu into the 95 ;)

good to hear that the CAS is on the cam instead of the crank, should be easyer when i do my 6bolt swap.

Some 1995 GSX's came with large rear brakes that were not offered after 1995.

thats definatly worth checking into, but my rear brakes look pretty small (on the 95) I'm still trying to decide if i want another car payment, & the damn 99 is RED@!! i hate red!!! but OMG 26k on the OD & it still smells new inside!

also, 99 was the only year in the 2G that offered black leather interior. the rims are different between the 95-96 & 97-99 as well.

unfortunatly this has a tan and black interior, but the rims aren't stock, they are white 17 or 18" rims

i do LOVE the black leather though (also don't the 99's have white insterment cluster backs & other years dont?)

Not true. Early and late 2g's have BOTH a Crank Angle Sensor (CAS) at the crank and a CAm Position sensor (CMP) on the camshaft. The difference is in the placement of the CMP behind intake cam pulley for early 2g's and on end of cam (ala 1g's) for late model 2g's. 1g cars make due with just the one sensor driven off the end of the cam.

The early 2g brakes aren't really that much larger, but they are vented.

though not a factor for your car later 2g's IMHO came with much better looking wheels!

the CAS signal is reversed and you have to switch the firing order to get the EPROM to work on a 97+. I'm not sure the 99 ecu will run the 95 car properly.

I've got a 98 and its got the black leather in it.

i thought the white guages were only offered in the OZ edition of the eclipses, maybe i'm wrong but can anyone back me on that? :dsm:

The early 95 GSX large vented rear breaks had problems with cracking and warping. They were dropped early on for the solid rear which persisted for the rest of the eclipse/talon run.

ahh, thanks for that info, it will save me some work ;)

I just spent 4 days putting my car together, hopfuly i can get some pictures done of my custom FMIC & Intake that were made for me and put them up today.

believe starting in late 98-99 mitsubishi did some modifications to the engine that was supposed to help prevent crank walk. Ive heard this a few times, so is this true? if so what did they change?

yes they did, but i'm also not sure what was done, i think it was a different main bearing set up

In 99 model they upgraded single thrust center main bearing to the split thrust washers from the main bearing like evo used it in all later models… so block needed to be changed to hold thrust washers

Correct me and give other some info about, im curious too … if it will be not too hard to make, i will make it to my blocks
