tuesday i went and bought a 1995 eclipse gsx. the motor was rebuilt by adrinalin motorsports in st.peters missouri. the motor has about 6xxx miles on it and it has a big 16g turbo. when i picked it up i test drove it and everything was good. i was driving it home and after about 30 min. of driving it lost all oil pressure one the highway, and then died. i coasted to the top of the exit ramp and started it again and i herd what i believe is a knock.

so my question is, is there any other possibilities as to what it could be?

Well, if you lost oil pressure all of the sudden, two things happened.

You either lost something and lost all the oil (sounds funny but you never know what could have came off the car.

or the oil pump went bad and the motor is starving for oil. however, usually when this happens the motor locks and seizes. Have you checked to see if the car HAS any oil? Start by there.

When you say knock, you mean rod knock, or what kinda knock did you hear?

Yes it has oil, and its not low, and i meen rod knock.

Ok so the motor has the correct amount of oil and it has what you think sounds like rod knock.

If so I believe it's time to take it apart bro, something on the lower end must've gone.

maybe other peeps with more experience might be able to chime in, but even if the car went out of timing, it shouldn't cause rod knock. You'll just have some bent valves and damaged pistons if they collided bad enough, but I don't think it'll give rod knock.

I have also heard of cases where if a valve is bent bad enough it'll give you a similar sound to rod knock. You might want to check the timing to make sure it's still good. If it ain't you might want to start there and see what went wrong.

Might be time for a rebuild, first thing i would do is drop the pan and see how the pump screen looks.

i am in the process of a similar problem. my car was lieking oil and my bro did not know and needed to use my car. he said while he was on the highway the car started smoking and shaking so he pulled over and turned off the car. i arrived and i looked under the hood and started the car up, the whole car was shaking and i tried listening for a knock, i didnt hear one. the car lost all the oil so i had to go pick sum up. i put oil in the car, waited a while then started it up it was still shaking. i couldnt leave it on the side of the highway cause the cop said it would have been impounded cause of the bad weather we were getting. i tried driving to the nearest gas station which wasnt far and got it towed the next morning sittn at the shop cause i have nooo car. the mechanic said i had bad valves and other stuff he didnt fully explain. hopefully im going down there today.... could there be anything esle wrong with my baby?

I have to ask, why do people drive their car when it is:
a) smoking
b) knocking
c) shaking like crazy
d) something is obviously wrong with the engine

I know a tow is expensive, but $80 (or even a $15 tow strap) vs. $2000? I wonder this every time I read a story of this nature.
