I put some Synchromesh in my car today, but it doesn't feel better. As a matter of fact, it feels worse. I think that I may have put too much fluid in the tranny.* What happens when there's too much?

Right now, the shifting feels even notchier, I'd say, and it's hard to get it into 1st.

*A very small amount of it was still slowly dripping out when I put the plug back in.

I'm personally not a big fan of BG synchSHIFT. I had Redline MTL in the Eclipse and while my engine was being re-built I switched to BG synchroSHIFT and I think it shifted ALOT smoother with the Redline MTL.

1G's are inherantly notchy because of the crappy cable shifter Mitsu used (improved in the 2G's but not perfect) so no matter what fluid you use you'll never always have buttery smooth shifting like in say a Honda.

your post is confusing
BG = syncroshift
GM/Pennzoil = syncromesh

I edited my post sorry for the confusion. I have the GM synchromesh in my Talon and BG synchroshift in my Eclipse. ;)

i was running a 70/30 mix of Redline MTL and MT-90. after a couple years it got really notchy, so I bought some BG Syncroshift II to see if it would help. anyhoo, when I drained it, it smelled like rotten cheese and felt like there was sand in it OMG it improved somewhat with the BG, but I also have some Syncromesh that I'm gonna try on the next fluid change. that is if the tranny doesn't go out first...

I've never tried the BG, do you think there's much of a difference?

Personally I don't think so (my 2G shifted smoother with Redline) and it's definately not worth the higher premium BG charges over GM Synchromesh or Redline MTL. These cars use an antiquated cable shifter system so while some gear libricants will smoothen out some of the rough shifts, you can't expect miracles from a bottle to make up for cheap engineering.
