Hey guys Im from the des Moines iowa area and have attended a few meets. But was curious if any of you knew alot about the 420a turbo process? I been looking threw thread threw thread probly have read them all but still not to sure about the Turbo setup was wondering if any of you could help out with the information i am looking for from basic fuel management- ecu Just making sure before I start my turbo setup
 
alright well I already found out all the information I needed from someone else on 420a bolt on tech. But if anyone still wants to put in some info on the turbo im still willing to hear everyone out. But when will the next car meet be? I was at the greys lake cruise. Funny stuff I was on the bathroom when the park ranger showed up and blammed my buddy the fat kid for being up there LOL as I come walking out the girls bathroom LOL. But we definately need to have more:sneaky:
 
The stock ecu cannot be reflashed or modified like the eeprom 1gs or the 95 2gs (or by using evoscan like the 98-99s). The cheapest route would be to use piggybacks, but these are not very accurate because they rely on the stock air sensor (which was never designed to see boost). e-manage can work okay because you can hook a greddy map sensor or a 3-bar gm map sensor up to it and it will fill in when the stock sensor gets overflowed. Granted, this will only work if you have larger injectors installed and it has some room pump in more fuel.

A cheap yet effective route would be the megasquirt ecu. This is a grass roots ecu that was designed by geeks and distributed as a build-it-yourself open source ecu. Its cheap and has most of the functionality of a stand-alone without the commercial price of some huge company. Currently there is a plug-n-play version of the megasquirt for 420As in testing. They have built them inside the stock ecu box with the same pinouts and will plug right in under the hood where the stock ecu would be. The only thing left is to test for heat and vibration resistance as megasquirts are usually installed inside the dash of a car.

I actually have a good friend from Osage who built a turbo 420A avenger a few years ago. If he does come to this meet, I will be sure to introduce you two.
 
I think im just going to try the 12:1 fmu and the walbro pump :talon:
Just be forewarned thats not a very safe way to accomodate for fuel. At the very least, you will not be happy with the results for very long. If you have to use an fmu, switch to a computer as soon as you can.

the fmu is a hack to flow too much fuel through injectors that werent meant to flow that much. also, that leaves the fuel delivery up to a diaphragm. depending on the volumetric efficiency of your engine, you could easily have lean or more likely too rich of fuel peaks where you are risking detonation and poor performance. The better way to tune for extra fuel is to have a computer do it.

Megasquirt is a ton of fun, but you better have some time laid out to learn it. Just lining up all the wiring to get pinouts right is a pain, let alone setting the car up properly. I love mine, though, and my car runs great.
 
yep. time is still at noon on the 24th. just a few of us signed up? anyone with a dsm or any modified vehicle is welcome to this meet. im really hoping that this will get together alot of the local car guys and talk about setting up what we tried last year. an all area car club. but the turnouts last year turned out to be a few of us serious guys then there were the kids doing burnouts and racing and trying to attract the cops. thats why we're not allowed to do these things. but on a good note.......hope to see everyone at the super walmart parking lot on duff at noon on the 24th. :)

Anyone here notice that more and more dsm's in our area are getting there windows busted out I noticed at least 4 eclipse and my talon all have there rear window busted out! Alight now for a question Anyone know how much it might cost to have a rear window installed? also Im looking for a after market header if anyone has one? thanks and I would go to the meet just to see what everyone has but My car is kinda in pieces right now plus im looking for a power steering tensioner LOL Yes my car is a piece but its my baby and im working on it LOL :thumb:

Show up late? In all seriousness, it's not like we're gonna eat and immediately go our separate ways. We haven't hung out in a while, and I plan on making a day of it.
 
i know, i was just assuming that everyone would meet up at noon then go...but thats just me. LOL well, if anyone needs an oil change, you know where to come XD the way things are going at work, i may get off early enough anyway:D

hey everyone...btw. i just bought a 91 laser rs-t with a big 16g and front mount and some other stuff. im taking the turbo and a buddy of mine wants the head for his race car but im parting the rest out. any takers??
