I got a pair of cams a while back from someone who had brought an evo 8 and was told the cams in it were crower 272's. They are not std hollow evo 8 cams but I couldn't find a single cast number or stamped number on them and they both have two dowel pins on each shaft with one blanked off (looks if the ends were faced in a lathe-could of taken off part#s??). The exhaust cam has the standard 1.180 base circle and the inlet has a reduced base circle of 1.170 (possible regrind or do they usually take more off??)

The following measurements will be way off (duration wont change though) because im running these cams in an evo 3 head (Inlet cam is still inlet and exhaust is still exhaust). That why I need to find some spec's because its guaranteed to be out by lots.

Intake cam lift= @ lobe .2456" (x 1.7 gives .4175'' or 10.60mm at the valve)
(The following measurements are @ .050" of lift)
Inlet valve opens 5deg ATDC.
Inlet valve closes 36deg ABDC.
Duration @ .050"=211deg

Exhaust cam lift= @ lobe .2342 (.3981" or 10.10mm at the valve)
Exhaust valve opens 43deg BBDC.
Exhaust valve closes 5deg BTDC.
Duration @ .050"=218deg

None of the specs matched any crower or bc cams I could find. Can I find a cam with a similar duration at .050" of lift and use there dial in specs, will I run into overlap problems if they are not a matched pair of spec's (eg use hks 272 specs for inlet and kelford spec for exhaust?)

Cheers Josh

I don't think all aftermarket cams get marked. I have a set of evo8 skunk2 264/272 cams in my 2g head. I don't know why there would be two dowel pins? Pix would be great. Also you can't time evo8 cams the same way as your stock cams.

Only way to find out what they are is match them up with specs of a cam from a company. Try skunk2 or crower or comp or gsc though they don't sound like Gsc cams to me as the lift would be higher on them.

Just a suggestioin, but maybe you could try measuring Duration @ .040" lift just to see if the numbers match to some other brand cams.

I'm away for work at the moment so I can't get pics. It looks like who ever made the cam's uses the same blank shaft for dsm's as they use for the evo 8's and drill two dowel pin holes 90degrees apart and blank off one hole and dowel the other to suit what motor its being used for. Yea I might check at .040tho too that sounds like a good idea.
