here is the deal. im putting a holset hx-35 on and i installed a n/t water pipe. well their is no lines on the water pipe to run water to the factory oil filter housing. i know this is going to cause flame fest BUT im thinking about deleting the lines running to the oil filter housing. im really wanting some SERIOUS opinions on why i cant? my thought behind it is that i really dont need them. oil temps run the same as water temps always. doesnt matter what car it is or if its got a external oil cooler or not. they just always run hand and hand. my car NEVER has over heating issues after i installed a fluidine radiator and think that the little bit of increase from not having the oil cooled will cause ill effect.

since im going to be trying this im thinking about doing alot of oil changes here shortly. probably at 1k,2k, and 4k to see if their is any effect on the oil itself.

my fear behind this is the fact that their is just oil running to my holset. i obviously have a turbo timer and if the block cools the oil down (in my theory) i dont "think" their will be a problem but maybe im not thinking far enough into this decision im about to make.

any thoughts, opinions, questions, ideas would be appreciated.

thanks in advance
david

Personally, since you already have the n/t water pipe installed, I think you should just get a 90 oil filter housing and a Front mount oil cooler, to clean up any more clutter.....

You can find used FMOC setups in the classifieds for about 80-100 dollars for everything....lines, core, housing etc...maybe cheaper

Or you can buy a massive cooler like I did from b&m. My oil temps have never raised up much due to air going straight in from the fog area....Just make sure you put the Feed line on the bottom and return on top otherwise you could endup getting air in your system....

Heres a link to a pic or 2 to look at.....

Make sure you do get a new gasket if you do decide to change to a 90 Oil filter housing

I just installed a oil cooled only turbo again. I have went back and forth a few times. I would suggest that you tap the water line ports on both the water pipe and the t stat housing. I did this and installed npt plugs. So when and if I get a turbo that needs water I just take out the plugs and put in some fittings for the soft lines. I taped the wate pipe to 3/8 npt and the t-stat housing to 1/8 npt.

well so far no problems. i just basically just looped the lines. i will be upgrading to a oil cooler setup in the near future BUT for the time being i think this will be just fine. thanks for your input guys!

That is a good idea. I remember when i needed to block off the port on the water pipe, It was almost impossible to find a fitting localy. I ended up using a 16mm x 1.25 drain plug.

i still have not had a chance to get some major driving done because the holset is leaking oil like a champ. apparently the guy from the turbo trader is going to release a special oil drain line for us here in PC to clock it at 12 degrees. if its flush it leaks oil unless you cut the crap out of the motor mount.

so far no problems tho. i only have like 20 miles on the setup. ill let you guys know if i drive it around for a few hundred miles before i switch to a oil cooler setup...
