I need your opinions and input im left with decisions and i need help making them. i REALLY REALLY want whatever opinion you have.

I have a 2G GST, right now my mods are filter, intake, 255lp fuelpump, fpr, full turbo back exhaust, upper intercooler pipe, bov, mbc, shocks, coilovers and wires. Im wondering about my next mods... i have about $1.2k to spend.

At first i wanted tint, speakers, cf hood, brembo pads and rotors. mostly visual stuff
then i was thinking about an LSD, but then i thought how much it would help and if it was work all the money it would take to order, ship and install.
then i was thinking, used 14b, o2 housing and exhaust manifold. Then i started thinking about reliability, how often DSMs break and how my friends DSMs are always down. if i really want to put up with it.

I deffinetly want to beat my brothers automatic transam ws6. He comes over in 2 weeks and I want him to be jealous of my car. he thinks his car is the best. He just recently departed the turbo scene when he got rid of his wrx.

I really want help with what to mod, i read the tuning guide off of dsmtuners and rre. I guess i could say that i want to beat my brothers car and have a car that would break down at most every 6 months.

As you may have noticed, i do not know what to be with my car. i do not know what to do with my car. im looking for what you think is good. I want your opinion. lay it on me. facts are also nice, my knowledge will grow.

Thanks,
matt

just go by the TUNING GUIDE here on dsmtuners. it's a step by step guide to modding your car to an approx. HP level.

ok, just looked at your mods... i'd say a turbo upgrade is next on the list. about 800 bucks [considering you install yourself] run 16 psi and i'm sure you'll be good competition for his ws6.

or you can get a clutch/lsd and go from a stop and pray he spins :p

i was thinking about a used 14b, o2 and exhaust manifold. i can do it with the help of a friend. i think i will have some money left over. i AM however worried about having to feather my car in first AND second with these mods. could there be a problem? Im also wondering about reliability. when does reliability become an issue?

the day they rolled off the assembly line

but seriously, reliability is just one of those things. things will break, they just break sooner with the more force/speed/torque/hp/etc/etc/insert action here/ that is applied. If you properly maintain your dsm, give it lots of tlc, follow all the supporting mods guidelines and don't drive like a maniac then it will last just as long as anything else between repairs...however if you're trying to have a daily driver and a racing vehicle rolled into one you're likely to have lots of downtime and broken parts...not to say it can't be done, but racing is expensive..i don't care if it is drag, autox or street..it's hard on the car and will wear things out more quickly...that's why people have project cars that they turn into mean machines..while still having daily transportation. nothing wrong with a sub 12 grocery getter...as long as you don't treat every stoplight and stopsign as the 1/4 mile. just my $.02

with 14b, exhaust manifold and o2 will i have to feather my fwd azz in second too?

$775 and $609.

I know it puts you about $200 over, but maybe you can find someone to sell you the S-AFC version1 for dirt cheap on the Classified, as well as the injectors. There is a guy making well over 300whp in a fwd with this turbo.

Then you are ready to roooolll.

Why not go with an Evo III 16g, exhaust mani, and o2 housing? If you shop well, you may even have enough left over to get a clutch.

Yeah, I know. as though they'd listen.

Yeah, us kids... Now days no one remembers when they were young and stupid.

Im going with the 14b because its dirt cheap and i can use my smic. Could I use smic with a 16g? If i shop well with a 14b I can also get tint and clutch and speakers. I like music, i want to get speakers to enhance the music, subs are obnoxious though. could I also get some more info on lsds.

lsds are for traction. FWD cars that alot of power must have them. If your poor like me, get the LSD inserts from BM tranny. I dont have them, but people say its a night and day difference. i didnt see but if u dont have rims yet....get some wider ones. Help out with the traction a little. tint is coo and systems are coo, from my expeirence kenwoods seem like the best speakers for the money.

But neway with the money id probably go with a14b setup, tint, and then some tranny stuff...act2100, lightened flywheela nd bmtranny lsd inserts...just my opinion.

Eh save up for what? My old man owns a 350z, e46 m3, and a few others. They are all overrated. Keep moddin the DSM :thumb:

Yeah, in cali its hard to get a good race and street car w/o violating a law.

With that said i belive that a SoCal RRE guy made an 11 sec car that was full interior and stock exterior and it was a daily driver. So if you really stay careful and tune your car right then you should be able to taste the same glory. Good luck though cuse if your car breaks down then thats your problem.

more opinions wanted... unanswered questions left.
with 16g will i need to ugprade to fmic?
with 14b, exhaust manifold and o2 will i need to feather in 2nd gear as well?
also, ive read on offtopic act clutches are bad... is this a problem with all clutches or just tends to be with act?

I have almost the same mods as you plus S-AFCII and logger and I have trouble till about 50mph with traction... I need to invest in motor mounts and an lsd if I can afford it. And not many people will say it but strut bars did help me with more then just cornering.

16g.... FMIC is needed if more then 16psi (SMIC = heat soak)
14b.... motor mounts will help a lot, lsd solves the problem
and cant help with the clutch, im an auto.
Hope this helps.... just do some searching, if you cant find it on this site then you dont deserve to drive a DSM.
Goodluck :thumb:

plenty of guys are running 16G's with the stock SMIC. it's just running at the track 3-4 times you'll see heat soak. or go for a very long hard drive..

i have FWD and a b16G at 16 psi. in 1st it's a feather game.. in 2nd I'm at 3/4 throttle for a split second and then just mash it on the floor 'til the end of third :D this is dont with some 235/45 tires and STOCK suspension. I can't comment on how the car keeps traction because of boost creep issues [ dont ask, i downgraded on the o2  ]

many guys are also running ACT clutches. some debate that an ACT 2600 has too much pressure and adds to crankwalk. many say it doesn't.. do your research on that subject. for a FWD the 2100 would prolly be the best. i'm currently running a centerforce dual friction with some crazy ass pressure plate [ previous owner install ] and it grabs like a bi***. hard to handle, but i've gotten used to it :)

are there any after market exhaust manifolds or o2 that will fit 14b and my apexi downpipe? if so what is the make/model?
