Hey guys, My cylinder head is at the machine shop right now, so I was wondering what things I should clean or remove/delete while I have the space to work.... any input/suggestions are welcome, seeing as this is the first head gasket I've done. Thanks in advance.

Its a 97gsx by the way.

Water pump? Should be a whole lot easier to get to w the head off.

Check

Timing belt. Tensioner. Pulleys. Crank seal. Clean your throttle body. Intake manifold.

I did the timing belt and tensioner when I did the water pump not even 2,000 miles ago so those are good... Should have stated what has already been done, my bad. What pulleys are you referring to? I will clean the throttle body, and I also plan on cleaning out the i.c. pipping and i.c. seeing as I doubt its been cleaned and I have over 200k on the car! I also plan on polishing the intake manifold :thumb: Anything else that I'm missing for the cleaning/replacing portion besides the normal gaskets that go with a head gasket repair job?

And what about deleting anything that's not really needed? I want to clean the cluttered up mess of an engine bay our cars come stock with! I do plan on removing the cruise control setup seeing as mine doesn't work to begin with.

your can also paint your TB a nice smoke color so it looks clean but not stand out too much. I would get some new studs arp if you can afford them they help in the long run. since the head is off check your pistons and the wear on them now that you can see clearly in there and look at the condition.

Hot tanked, magnafluxed (their equivalent to it) seeing as its impossible on an aluminum head. And decked.

I'm using a composite hg, and a buddy of mine is going to do the oil port mod for me, as well as clean up the intake ports.

Get a new set of valve springs, BC1100 is what I install. Most all the 4g63T valve springs are about flat after 20 odd years and 120k miles.

BC1100 springs work well with the stock retainers, and be had for about $100 shipped

A new set of vition blue stem seals would be good too.

Check your steering rack for leaks where the lines go into the top of it. There is an O-ring on one of the fittings I believe and it is a bi*** to get out with the intake and support bracket in the way. I know its like that for a 1g anyway, but its been years since I fixed that leak...
