Okay this is starting to get to me... Ive been reading about everyone that wants to run a 2g head on a 1g block must reem holes out 1mm over.... my question is this...

I have not one but 2- 2nd gen heads that fit 1g Studs perfectly... At first I thought well maybe someone put a 1st gen on this 2g car but it cant be since i have another stock head laying around and the 1g Head studs went in without no problem at all... I also set the 2g head on the 1g bare block and started to bolt it down and there was no problem at all...

I want to use what I got instead of spend more on this 6bolt. Thus im going to use the 2nd gen head, so can some one please answer why i would have to open the holes up if it fits already... The 2g head studs fit the 1g block but not well and shouldnt since its smaller i know... Most people just post run a 1g head with the block but thats out of the question, just please answer my question. thanks.

The head studs change when going from 6 bolt to 7 bolt. 6 bolt motors use 12mm studs, while 7 bolt motors use 11mm studs. If the 1g head you have is from a 92.5+ 1g, it most likely came from a 7 bolt motor, therefore it had 11mm studs, same as the 2g. If you're going to use a 6 bolt block, you'll need to get the proper studs, which will then most likely result in you needing to enlarge the holes on your 2g head. Hope this clears it up for you.

I have 6bolt studs and 7 bolt studs, 6bolt studs off a 91 Eagle Talon TSi Auto.... Im not using these studs however they fit the 2g head PERFECTLY. That’s why im so confused, they dont need forced down or nothing. Was there a difference in the auto's and manuals like they did with the turbo and cams... Im not trying to confuse anyone here and i appreciate the help. And i dont have a 1g head to use, I have a 1g head off currently my 91 talon since the timing belt broke and bent some valves, and since it was out I was going to solve this stupid stud bolt confusion with this 6bolt swap on my 2nd gen.

To try to unconfuse this... LOL...

Like i said I tore apart my 1g car to fix the head, Just had to order some new 1mm over valves since that’s what i had in it.. but thats not what im asking. I figured since its out id look at the stud hole size because im in the middle of doing a 6bolt swap in my 2g as well.

But... Im running low on cash, and I have 2 2nd gen heads lying around and a 7bolt block that spun a bearing... So what I did is got a hold of a 1990 6bolt low end, took it apart, heat tanked it, honed it. yada yada.. Then took 1g Big Rods and mated it with the 2nd Gen pistons out of the 7bolt... Ive read up about 1g vs 2g heads and it always talks about milling hole 1mm over. So I set the 2g Head on the bare block (6bolt) and then used the 1g Studs from the 91 6bolt to see if it would bolt on for shits and giggles... the odd thing is it did... As i said above I didn’t have to force them down past the head or anything they dropped right in.

im going crazy here
