I had a B&M in my 95 eclipse before I sold it. I took it out and still have it. Used it for 6 months, $75.00 if anybody wants it.

Definately don't spend the money on a B&M shifter. I searched alot and found that there is no real difference between the B&M and the ebay knockoff. I bought the ebay one and i was amazed at the quality. The machining was incredible and the adonizing was also good. It came with all of the bolts and spacers, the only thing you have to buy extra is threadlock, which is a whole 3 bucks. It took about an hour to install because I took my time AND we lost the original e-clip(buddy tried to force it on and ping, it was gone.LOL) So, in my opinion, DO NOT waste your money on a original B&M shifter. The throw is amazingly short, I set it at the 50% reduction. I recently sat in a dodge viper srt-10 on demo, and I honesly felt no difference from the throw of that and my car. They felt exactly the same, no kidding.

Can't go wrong with the ebay knockoff! :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

is there a diference between instaling shifter in a eclipse 95 to a 98?

ive got a ebay knockoff, installed by local mechanic, but the thing is way in front, like it was on 1st gear... when shifting to 3rd you hit the radio

the guy sayd that it is that way... what a fu?

I have just purchased the ralliart short throw for my 1g eclipse and when i read that it will not fit on my 1990 eclipse i was pissed... but like always i tried to do it my way... im glad i did because with some slight modification it works beautifuly... with a very short throw.. probably reduced by 60% or so... if anyone wants details let me know

i searched for this everywhere and found nothing, so here's my question:

if i were too just cut my stock shifter and then just retap the threads for the knob, would this be the same as an after market short shifter? the b&m one that i got is almost the same length as the original and want somethin that doesn't feel like i'm driving a semi. any answers/ideas welcome. thanks

The short shifter doesnt change the height of the shifter (at least not in our cars) but it does change the throw.
Theres a peice that moves the point at which the new lever will rotate upon. (Its usually blue)
This blue peice is what actually makes it a short shifter.
If you just cut your old lever, sure it will make it shorter, but it will also be harder to shift. Its like a wrench, the longer it is the more leverage you can get.
So when you shorten this lever you will get much less leverage.
I would say just put your short shifter in and you will see the physics of it. I highly recommend not cutting your original shifter.

you explained that really well rstare but i would still cut the shifter and make it smaller because it looks way better than having it the stock length... thats just what i would do tho

So are you looking to move to a short shifter or are you just looking for a shifter that doesn't sit as high?

wow that was a really good explanation. i would like to incorporate both. i want to make it shorter in height AND in the actual throw.

My Fidanza short throw shifter is shorter in height (about 1/2 an inch) compared to the stock shifter.

Well, one of these days I plan to cut my B&M shifter down. But I tell you, at 50% reduction the throw has been reduced quite a bit. I just want to cut it down because it sticks UP so dang high with my current MOMO shift knob.
