Gross vehicle weight is how much it weighs with a full tank of gas, all four seats being filled, and I'm not sure about the trunk space being used or not.

If you're looking to drop weight, there's plenty of things to remove, like AC, bumper supports, interior, spare/jack, sound deadening material, and more.

GVW is the max designed sustainable weight.

For instance a school bus weighs about 12000 lb empty. (curb weight)
however the same bus has a GVW of about 32000 lb. Thats 20000 pounds of weight....you can easily see it includes all cargo.

A/C Components, Spare and Jack, floorboard in the hatch, rear seats, passenger seat..those are the general components you might want to look in removing.

Of course you can do some SERIOUS weight reduction by removing the engine and transmission.
