Hey guys. I have a 97 GS-T in great shape. Well my car is all stock and I baby it 99.9% of the time :D anyway I drove the car to the store the other day and when I went to break for a light I hear like a screaching sound coming from my Drivers side tire. I dont feel any vibration in the steering wheel and noe when on the freeway going about 70. I jumped on the freeway and then got off at the next exit and did a moderate hard braking to see if the sound would still be heard. Well when i brake hard it doesnt make a sound, only when i do like normal braking from like 35mph etc. I'm lost o what it can be. Also I have good brakes. No wear on them at all. I thought maybe it was brake dust cause i have a 01 turbo jetta also and i mainly drive that during the day and drive my dsm at night, so the dsm sits quite a bit. Like I said I baby it and drive it sometimes. Let me know what you think.

take off the wheels and inspect your brakes. Check to see how much pad you have and see if there are any noticeable marks on the rotor. I am guessing you have a pad that is completely out. if you don't see if from the outside then check the inside pad. i am pretty sure you will find you problem real quick.
