I recently installed a remote start for my 2g gst with std tranny, I obviously had to bypass the clutch safety switch, which is easy enough by just disconnecting the plug. I noticed theres a secondary clutch switch as well while doing this, which is still connected. Not sure at all what that is used for though if not for the cruise control or starter? My previous vehicle only had one clutch switch not sure of the need for two?

Anyways, after installing the remote start, (and disabling the clutch safety switch) it has also disabled my cruise control. Which is logical i suppose, as the car/cruise control circuit always thinks the clutch is engaged? But with there being another switch is there a way I can rewire the cruise control to either not care about the switch or to use that secondary switch? Has anyone ever tried this before? I would prefer to rewire to use the secondary switch, but then again since hitting the brake also turns off cruise, and 90 percent of the time if you are hitting the clutch you are also hitting the brake when cruising..i dont think its absolutely critical to have that function. Regardless, anybody have a solution?

Subsquently is there a way to just hook the starter circuit up to bypass the switch, while still having the switch work for cruise control, and whatever functions it controls?

Thanks in advance to anyone with a solution

I don't have a solution to your problem. But i can tell you what that second switch is for. It's to disengage the cruise control whenever the clutch is depressed. Without that switch whenever you press in the clutch the engine would just rev up if the cruise control is engaged.

Your cruise should still work unless you unhooked the wrong switch. Of the 2 switches you have to bypass the clutch start you should have unhooked the lowest switch. The one closer to the firewall that the pedal touches when its all the way down. Which if I remember right on my 97 I had to use a jumper wire just disconnecting it didn't work. But you can test that with a meter. The switch cloest to the dash you need to keep hooked up it is the one that works the cruise control. It deactivates thecruise when the pedal is just barely pressed so the cruise shuts off before you have the clutch engaged. If you still have the upper one plugged in make sure that the pedal is touching it when the pedal is all the way up

Humm , cause right now the remote start works and I don't have to depress the clutch to start the car... so either i disconnected both ..which i know i was messing with both cause i couldnt figure out which was which. But i know for SURE the one closest to the dash is disconnected and not jumped. the one in the rear, closest to the fire wall. I thought i reconnected, but ill have to recheck i guess. So can anyone else confirm that those are the functions each serves? Front(dash side) = Cruise control? And rear (firewall side) = Starter?

The rear is the one that would normally have to be pressed completely to let the car start. I may not have jumped mine but I do know it is the one to let it start and upper switch kills the cruise so that way your car doesn't free rev if you push the clutch in to change gears

Get in the habit to leave the car in neutral cause if its in gear it will take off on you . This happened to me on a 90 laser . It was a customers car and the alarm would keep going off so I had the remote in my hand and pushed the wrong button and the car started . It took off and hit my tool box.

Yes, that's exactly how it is, Just leave the Front (dash side) hooked up and leave the other one unhooked and you are good to go.

Good advice, :thumb: Actually this is my habit as well.

However, hooking up the safety wire (alarm) to the Ebrake would be the best option, which the Ebrake will give enough load for the engine not to start if he ever forgets to leave it in neutral.
