Its not metal or styrofoam. Its fiberglass
The front end feels loose to me without that fiberglass reinforcement bar installed. Similar to what it feels like without a strut tower brace. I don't like driving a noodle. Our cars are crazy amounts of not stiff. And even if you do trim it like the pic posted above it still ties the end of the front frame members together. And the fiberglass reinforcement bar still sticks out farther than any of the parts of the front end including hopefully a front mount.
Yup, front and rear. Heavy as hell too.1gs have a metal bumper?
They are designed for LOW SPEED collisions. In a high speed collision it won't matter if you have the crash bean or not. It is designed to save your car in a little fender bender, parking lot accident, someone hitting you at a stop, etc. In those cases the crash bar compresses and can save your car for some serious damage. I kept mine not because I'm worried about my driving, but because I'm worried about some idiot hitting me in a parking lot (Its happened before and my crash bar did its job). Thanks for all of the feedback, but honestly if im going to crash fast enough for the crash bar to be effective its wrecked anyway, i supose my intercooler and radiator will be my new crash bar, possibly an engine, and the crashbar are around 20 pounds. or at least my front one is every small amount makes a difference.
Yes, 1g crash bars are all metal. This is all I had to trim mine to fit my VRSF FMIC:
I'd say it would still be pretty effective, not at saving the FMIC, but at saving my frame in a low speed hit.
