Okay I got crank polished at a local machine shop. When I picked it up it had tape around where the little lip is where the crankshaft sprocket rides on. When I took the tape off the piece came right out of the crank. I put the rest of the gears/pulleys on top of it to keep it intact with crank thinking it would be okay. I ran car like that for months but always had strange idle would take real long to spool. I was suspecting timing to be off but wasnt sure.

I lifted the head so I replaced my gasket and studs with L19s. I than spent my whole entire weekend trying to time the motor over and over. The valves kept hitting the pistons when turned by hand at around 4:00 position. After a LONG hot weekend something told me to check the timing plate and under the crankshaft sprocket gear and found *Images Below**

I thought I was putting the motor at TDC but the plate fooled me.

What should I do take whole motor apart and install new crank? This is nuts for the simple fact I was pretty much finished with the car.. If I install a new gear and plate the same thing will happen over time from the piece being so loose. It may also make the timing belt jump a teeth and damage things!

Thanks!! Ya the key is really loose causing extreme wear on the crankshaft sprocket and plate. Im guessing you can buy these individually.? Are the Oem ones suppose to come out? Im looking at pics of aftermarket crankshafts and looks like they dont come with them preinstalled..

The issue he is having is the hole is wobbled out causing movement. I have seen 3 cranks this year with issues with the crank key hole. How bad is it? The key should almost have to be tapped in with a hammer. If looser than that you have an issue. You might be able to go with a sightly bigger key and hand file the crank sprocket to fit since the crank is already in the car. If this happens to me before the engine is built I look for another crank.

The key goes in without a hammer.. Im going to try to hunt for a bigger key of some sort because I really dont wanna take out the motor.. Heres a video of how loose it is but thats only with the balance shaft pulleyhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lMYSE3cIh6w&list=UUf2ZiSecn_oOFzfmd8Aq0WA&index=1&feature=plcp
