so my cooling fan hasn't been working for a while now so i decided to wire it to a switch. well i hooked up the switch the other day and found out my cooling fan's motor was out. so i went and got a new fan and hooked it up. now is where it gets weird, for me at least. whenever i flip the switch the a/c fan kicks on and if the car is off or the key is on acc, the cooling fan also kicks on. but whenever i start the car or even turn the key to "on", the a/c fan stays on but the cooling fan immediately flicks off. what the hell is going on? i need this fan to be fully operational by the 19th so i don't really have much time. thanks for the help in advance.

Because at stock the cooling fan doesn't work at all. and the only thing i did was connect two wires at the relay, i didn't unhook any wires so if the ecu tells the fan to turn on, then it will. but it hasn't been doing that in a very long time. hence the switch.

Were the stock fans in the car to begin with? Did you replace them with stock fans? IF yes to both, rewire the fan circuit back to the orignal configuration. Did it fix your problem. If yes, then you reversed the wires on the relay (87 for 87a) so when the coil pulls the switched lead it shuts the fans off. Its a typical mistake when wiring relays to swap the NC with the NO prong.

yes the stock fans were there when i bought it, and yes i replaced it with a stock fan. i did not mess with the wiring at all. i followed the vfaq instructions and took out the left relay(middle of the top three) in the driver side box, put on wire down one terminal and another down the other terminal, popped the relay back in(yes it is all the way down) and hooked up the switch. for some reason the fan will run with the car off but not when it's running. my a/c fan works weather the car is on or off though.

Try taking out the wires for the switch and reconnecting the relay...with the car running turn the ac on, both fans should come on, if not than just start with the obvious things like the fuse, making sure the fan has power,etc...i had a similiar problem with my fans it turned out to be a loose connection.
