Getting ready to wire up some Flex-a-lite FAL fans on my 2g and was wondering if anyone knew how the stock fans work. Each fan has 4 wires running to it (2 ground, 2 power); One power/ground pair is for low speeds and the other pair is for high-speed operation.

Question is . . . When the HIGH speed pair has power running through them, is the low speed pair cut off? Or do they both retain power when operating in high-speed mode?

I've looked @ the wiring schematics in the 98 FSM but am not sure if the ECM cuts power to the low-speed relay when the high-speed kicks in. Ideas?

Finally figured it out . . . Both hi/lo circuits for the fan stay energized when running in hi-speed mode.

Mods -- guess this can be closed

im installing my dual FAL slim fans and was curious about how to wire them? thanks

I just snipped the connectors off of the stock fans. Each stock connector has 4 wires . . . 2 power and 2 ground. Tie the power wires together and the ground wires together, then connect them to the power/ground wires of the fan.

On the harness-side of the connector, I believe these are the wires-- double check though:

Radiator
------------
White-Black + (Lo)
Black - (Lo)
White-Blue + (Hi)
Blue-Green - (Hi)

Condensor
------------
Blue + (Lo)
Blue-Black - (Lo)
Blue-White + (Hi)
Black - (Hi)

*****EDIT*****

Wire colors were double-checked and corrected.

I went one step further, and put a fuse (that came in the FAL kit) between the +'s of each fan. This way, both fans turn on to cool the car. I used thermal reflective tape, over the soldered/electrical taped connections. I used a fuse, so if there is was too much of a load, the fuse would blow, returning the setup to stock (second fan on with A/C).
It's worked great for thousands of miles. No blown fuse.
Cooling is not an issue.

Is the eclipse different from the talons as the brackets that came with the 325s don't fit at all on my 97 talon. Also do I have to wire in the thermostat and probe and all that crap. They really dont' seem to fit at all and don't seem to be plug and play at all.Seriously false advertising I think!!

Yeah they got us ! I was pissed too. You have to use the metal holders to hold the fan to the radiator. That wasn't a big deal, but not what I expected. It does work fine. I had to take another step and notch out the bottom of the fan shroud with a dremel because there was radiator plastic square tabs or whatever in the way. This made the fans hug the radiator better. Then you hack the connectors off the stock fan motors, and soldier them to the FAL wiring for each fan. Then I highly suggest using the fuse and wire they provided to connect the positives between the motors so they both turn on to cool (as I said above). Throw everything else (the probe and relay box etc) in the corner of your garage.
The ecu controls the fans (210deg).

Ok so dont need the thermostat and probe..wonder why they include that crap in a specific kit. They should have both proper connectors and proper molding so they fit the rad and the factory holes line up.It seems they are selling a universal kit and saying its plug and play and factory bolt on!!! I think will call them and give them a piece of my mind. For the price they should do what they say .I am sure can figure out the wiring and mounting..was even going to get plastic thru the rad things and put it on with those. No brackets needed then.
At least dont have to hook up all that extra crap..Isn't there some air conditioning relay or do I have to hook that up? I have air.

i don't know if your 2g is different from mine but the WHITE/BLACK and WHITE/BLUE are the (+) positive wires and the BLACK and the BLUE are(-) negitave wires.

this wiring code is for your main radiator fan. (passenger side fan). if your tieing into a 2 wire fan, connect the WHITE/BLACK and WHITE/BLUE wires together and then to the corresponding (+) positive wire and the same for the BLACK and BLUE on your corresponding (-) negative wire.

hope this helps.

Heres the info I got from the 1998 Talon factory service manual at work.

Radiator Fan:
White/Black-power(low)
White/Blue-power(high)
Black-ground
Blue/Green-ground

Condensor Fan
Blue-power(low)
Blue/White-power(high)
Black-ground
Blue/Black-ground

This is how it is on my 99gst so I would assume it would be the same for your car and all 2g's for that matter. Of course a multimeter would tell you pretty quick as well.

So you guys that bought the 325's still had to do the wiring and they didn't mount right up with out modifactions?

That sucks, I'm glad I decided to save some money and bought the 210 and they flow a little bit more air.

I did pretty much what was said above.I dremelled the radiator tabs instead of the fans and used the stock supplied brackets but had to drill holes in them since the slots in them were not long enough.

They are sitting flush now and its on the rad fine. So now wiring them up shortly.

My apologies for not getting back to this sooner, for some reason I never got a notification this thread had been updated :|

At any rate, I've updated the original wiring colors, a couple of them were switched. Hope all goes well :thumb:

My cooling fan connector burned up and stopped the fan from working. I cut the wires and reconnected them

white/black & white/blue-connected to blue (fan)

Black & Blue/green-connected to black (fan)

The fan still will not come on. I tired using another relay but nothing. Could my fan be dead?

I have tried hooking my fan up to a 12v source and the fan works. New fuse installed and all relays are ok is my fan still dead? I have heard people say that a fan will work when hooked directly to a battery but still not when connected to the car. Is this right?

If it is my fan should I just go and get a stock fan or buy a 12"slim line. I have room in the engine bay but its tight with the stocker

The slimlines are nice . . . and tend to flow even more air.

If your wiring is done correctly and all relays + fuses are okay . . . I would think the fan is dead. But since it runs when connected straight to the battery . . . you sure there wasn't damage done to the wiring somewhere?

Hey fellows my radiator wiring burned due was contacting manifold.and I need new wiring is batter just upgrade or rewire it is so what patern or right connection.
