Can someoen please take a picture of the plug for a 2g coolant temp sensor plug and what the actual temp sensor looks like without the plug? Thanks

Are you sure it still looks like that on a 2g 7bolt engine, because the link you posted the owner had a 6 bolt swap in his 2g, and also the above diagram is for a 1g engine. Again im just going off a parts website i looked up the coolant temp sensor for a 2g and thats what it shows, i dont own a 2g so i dont know exactly.

CAPS isn't working for me right now for some reason so I can't check. Hopefully someone with a 2g can chime in, I was looking at his profile and didn't see he said this was for a 2g. It could very well be different.

Ok, well now I'm pretty confused. Basically the previous owner did a 6 bolt swap.

But I think I figured out today. I found the two wires which run the coolant temp sensor, but they are going into the hole where the "engine coolant temp switch" should be. Where the coolant temp sensor should be, the 6 bolt one still sits in there. So it looks as if my car two coolant temp sensors screwed in, and the guy who did the swap took the "engine coolant temp switch" out of the mix. What exactly does that do?

I have been messing around with these as well. I am pretty sure the engine coolant temp switch is what runs your factory guage/tells your fans when to go on.

I also would like to ask on a 1G, which one of these is the one that has a wierd fitting sticking out that looks like two vacuum lines go on it? Is that the engine coolant temp sensor?

No, thats just an emissions thing. It's called the thermo valve or something like that.

I dont know if my last post was unclear, but basically I have this....

which is plugged into the "coolant temp engine switch". The weird part is that it has the two wires which are supposed to go onto the coolant temp sensor. Basically what I think is that the coolant temp switch was removed during the 6 bolt swap, and the 2g coolant temp sensor was put in its place. The 1g one is still there, just nothing is plugged into this.

My fans DO go on still, so wtf? Can someone look at their 2g coolant temp switch AND their 2g coolant temp sensor and tell me what color wires are going into it.

Well if they did take the "engine coolant temp switch" out and replace it with the correct 2g coolant temp sensor ( so that the 2g plug would plug into to it), i don't think the location is very good. The way it is now its above the thermostat, where the the correct location on this thermostat housing is below the thermostat. Also all of a sudden i see that you are saying that you have a 2g but it has a 6 bolt swap, why didnt you mention this before? It would have helped us out alot.

Here's a photo of my 2g coolant switch and sensor. The unit highlighted yellow has two wires, black and black/white. The unit highlighted magenta has one wire: red/yellow.

Are these the only two sensors going into that housing?

And the one highlighted in yellow is the actual coolant temp sensor right? Just making sure.

It looks that way, the yellow highlighted one has the correct wire colors going to that plug as you have. So it looks as if your presumptions were right they put the 2g coolant temp sensor in the hole where the engine coolant temp switch used to be. I would try and relocate it to the location of the original 1g coolant temp sensor that isnt being used, it needs to be on the engine side of the thermostat, even if you look at the above picture TooJung2die posted the stock location of the 2g coolant temp sensor is on the engine side in the thermostat housing.

There's only these two. The yellow highlight is the temp sensor for the ECU and the magenta highlight is for the dash gauge. I expected to find a third for the A/C but it doesn't exist.

Sorry to bring this thread up after all the years, but has anyone got the oem part number for the part that's called engine coolant temp switch on the picture? I assume it's pretty much the same part on 1g and 2g...

MD091056 = Gauge Unit, Water Temp (magenta part in photo)
MD182467 = Sensor Unit, Water Temp (yellow part in photo)
Hope this helps.
