coolant return hose blew, now low coolant light wont go off. level wont stay full.

Ok, i was driving around and my coolant light came on, and steam started shooting out the under the hood, so i shut it down and coasted across the road and pulled off.

the rubber hose that connects the coolant return to the thermostat housing ruptured. I walked to advanced bought a new section of hose and a gallon of antifreeze ready mix.

replaced and refilled.
perfect. after about a few miles, coolant light comes on, i pull over, top it off.
few miles later, coolant light comes on, i pull over and top it off.

now, its completley topped off all the time, but the coolant light wont go off?

also, it took almost a gallon to fill it back up.

Did you burp the system? You could have air trapped in the system somewhere. When you start the car it could be sucking up all the coolant in the reservoir.

the coolant level sensor is in the bottom of the reservoir, so if the reservoir is full... it shouldnt be on.

**edit: I dont know if its different for a 1G, but the 2G sensor is in the reservoir at least...

Its in the bottom. But I was thinking maybe its being emptied by lack of coolant in the radiator.

you guys was right,
but i didnt get to read the posts til after i figured it out.

i went for a drive, shit was still on, i pulled over, with the jug of coolant and it was plumb full, so i was like "damn bastard, " and i just dumped the rest in the coolant resiviour and got in the car, and the light was out, HAHA
