Generally, yes. The oil that will be flowing to lubricate the turbo won't be able to cool it down and will see excessive heat, causing shorter oil life, oil coking on the turbo parts, and eventually will probably kill the turbo.

Fine, do what you want. When your turbo fails, then you can upgrade to an oil-only turbo.
