Ok, Need some help. First off, my car is a 97 GST and I just changed the turbo to a 16g.

Now everything runs fine when the car is on, no leaks or anything. When I turn the car off it will be fine for about a minute, then coolant will start leaking a pretty good amount out of the top water line to the turbo. The line that goes into the back of the turbo. I put 3 clamps on it and, it still manages to find a way out. When the car is on it will not leak one drop. I just got the air out of the coolant lines by running the car with the radiator cap off. There were some bubbles but nothing major.

Any ideas?

a few things... A. reason it doesnt leak when youre running is because coolant is flowing through, so when the cars off the remaining coolant thats sitting in the line is finding its way through the leak in youre hose. B. my buddys gst has a 16G and he doesnt run coolant to it, all "G's" are oil fed only, thats why many people search for the 1990 water pipe because it doesnt have the coolant line = less clutter and cleaner engine bay

The hose is probably just old and weathered, replace it and don't make your car look all ghetto with a million things on the hose trying to get it to stop leaking. You could block the coolant off, but you would have to be super meticulous about timing the turbo after EVERY drive etc. The coolant is for that reason I'm pretty sure.

I'd start by replacing that $2 section of coolant hose and use new worm drive clams. The 1990 water pipe he's talking about still feeds water to the turbo, it just doesn't have the nipple that feeds water to the oil filter housing because it (1990's) has an air-air oil cooler instead of the water cooled sandwich style like the rest of the cars.

Side note: NO, "G's" (13g, 14b, 16g, etc..) aren't oil fed only. You can physically block off the passages and yes, the turbo will still function, but for how long? MHI designed the center section to be oil and water fed, so I personally keep it that way on my car and all customers cars.

sorry correction didnt mean to say oil fed "only". my buddys 16G has more than 25k on it, stills pulls hard and strong, and of course the cooler you can keep the turbo the better i understand that, but just pointing out an example if he ever wanted to go that route. And for (Aproductions) the T-25 that came stock on 2G is a garrett turbo with a mitsu flange and theyre both oil and water fed, as far as only running oil to it i havent heard nor tried it. Its a different turbo design (garrett.. mitsubishi) so i couldnt tell you wether it would good, bad, or neutral.
