Like alot of people here I purchased the SSAutoChrome 2G FMIC kit on Ebay. When I installed it on my car, I had to relocate the stock overflow bottle to the location that used to be occupied by the sidemount intercooler. That sucked. Checking the coolant level in the overflow bottle became a hassle of getting the cap off/on. To me everything about mounting it in front of the passenger front tire felt WRONG.

I looked on Ebay and other places for decent catch cans, I constantly watched the classieds for someone parting out a working setup, I never found what I was looking for.

So...

I made one that fits where the stock overflow went, does a good job, and the stock plastic cap fits great.

When I installed my fmic, all I did was relocate the overflow to where the smic was at. Worked well, no fab work or money spent, and it helped clean up the engine bay. The top actually sticks through the hole where the uicp went so it is also easy to check and fill if needed.

Looks good, and nice pictures! I actually put mine in the stock smic location, unlike the previous reply, The cap is not located by the hole where the old ic pipe went. It is actually mounted right there where the smic location was. So i can not easily fill it up, I have to turn my tire and use a funnel. I my car is a weekend warrior, so it's not a biggy. The engine bay does look a lot cleaner. Give or take I guess.

I definitely wouldnt mind having it like stock though. So just incase I, or others do decide to change their setup, can you link us to an auction of the same catch can you bought, also how are you mounting it?

you shoudl just replace those fittings on the side with 90 degree barbed fittings. then run a clear tube between the two barbs.
then you will be able to see the coolant level quite easily.

Good Idea on the sight "tube" instead of the glasses.

I MADE THIS MYSELF for those who missed it.

I like the sight glass', I happen to just have (2) laying around so I figured WHY NOT.

I once heard that there is a NHRA rule against having a overflow bottle in a fenderwell.......:toobad:

Edit:

Oh,....... its hard to see because I painted it gloss black but there is a mount on the passenger side of the catch can bolted to a existing threaded hole in the chassis for that sturdy "its not gonna fall off" peace of mind.......matter of fact you can see the mount in pic 4.

How ya'll like those TIG welds?

your engine bay has a LOT going on!
would look much cleaner if you ran a black hose instead of that blue one, spray the coolant resevoir cap black to blend in and draw less attention,. and straighten out those plug wires.
would look cleaner.

but i'm not here to give fashion tips LOL.

good work!

Thanks for the insight, unfortunately I do not enter my car in Car Shows'....its a everyday DD and a rolling canvas of my dedication to keep it running properly.

I am still very glad I did this modification, it does its job well and will continue to do so.....unlike a 32 oz Gatorade bottle.....they melt after you get some 215* coolant in them....:tease:

A Gatorade bottle works just fine for me. :thumb:
