i have a 1997 and if i wanted to convert to a 6 bolt bottom end, would i have to get a different block, or could i just use the crank from a 6 bolt? thanks.

Well I'm guessing you are doing this because you want to reduce your chances of getting crankwalk. Well since it's not the crank that is believed to cause CW, then putting in a 6 bolt crank won't change anything, if it can even bolt up to the 7 bolt block. I'm not positive on that part.

so then could i put a 7 bolt crank in a 6 bolt block? im guessing no since no one does that...

I have no idea but why would you want to? What's the benefit if it's even possible? I don't see one.

im almost 100% positive that you cant switch cranks. what are your plans and why would you want do it? check out www.dsmtrader.com or check the classifieds on this website. i as tons of people have done 6 bolt swaps, im sure someone will chime in on the crank swap.

7 bolt crank in a 6 bolt block means you dont have to change your flywheel and stuff like that... or so i would assume. i know bunches about turbos and stuff, but im an idiot when it comes to doing engine swaps and internal's stuff. im learning though...

no

if you are wanting to make power, go with a stroker...

if you have walked and want a new engine, get a standard 6-bolt.

If you want a 6-bolt swap, buy a 6-bolt block w/rotating assembly. You CAN NOT swap cranks between 6 and 7 bolts.

i do want to make power... what kind of stroker options do i have? what about a stroked 6 bolt?

7bolt oil squirters seem to be the main cause of CW.
Eh, it's one of a few suspects. Also mentioned are weak crank alloys, inaccurate machining, overly-lightened castings and poor bearings. I'm not sure I fully believe in any one of the guesses.

I still wonder what it would do to cut the thrust cap free of the girdle.

magnus, FFWD, SBR... there are quite a few... you can either put a 4g64 crank into a 4G63 block (getting a 2.3L) or put a 4G63 head onto a 4G64 block (getting a 2.4L)

I don't think you CAN build a 7-bolt stroker... I am pretty sure they are all 6-bolt.
