What are the cons of having a rebuilt head without valve stem seals besides smoking in between shifts? Any performance loss or harm to the motor?

You'll be sucking oil like you won't believe, and putting out a smokescreen like the Bismarc.
It'll also coat your intake and exhaust ports with oily shit.

Someone forget something, did they?

i hope this doesn't wonder into the 'free mods' section

so who rebuilt your head with no seals, anyway?

Well its a pretty long story. I had my car in the shop for almost 2 months getting a built 6 bolt motor put in. Started it up and it jumped timing. Bent all 8 valves in the head. So the shop had this head laying around and put it on....nothing really i could do. They told me everything was done correctly besides valve seals which they assured me wouldn't have any negative affects besides smoking on start up and between shifts. Wanted to drive it badly after 2 months. Finally got the car last week and drove it home. The 2 hour trip home car ran better then ever. Next morning....the car doesn't start up out of no where  . I've posted a few times about it trying to figure out what it is. Now i'm waiting on this shop to check whats wrong with it and their almost 2 hours away. I'm not very happy right now especially learning about the head  . Guess i'll jus have the seals put in when i do the cams....if i ever get the car running again.

Good christ, HOW DO YOU PEOPLE LET THESE SHOPS STAY IN BUSINESS?

1.) Pay a lawyer to write them a letter about how THEY are going to make your car whole, AT THEIR EXPENSE by a shop OF YOUR CHOOSING.

2.)SUE their slag asses until their doors close.

I can't even comprehend a shop letting a car out the door without valve seals.

This post is why I keep throwable foam items near the computer.

Are you guys sure they didn't just mean bad seals? Eather way it's messed up but that would make more sence to me. Whatever the case your new head should be in as good of condition or better, assuming it was completly their fault the timing slipped. The only way I could see it causing the car to not run would be if it dumped enough oil to foul your plugs.
I hope it works out.

This is something I have noticed since the whole sportcompact scene has grown. You have all these "shops" that are run by kidiots that think they have what it takes to run a shop well. Then you have even more people who dont educate themselves enough before going and doing business and they end upi screwed by a moron.

Why would you let a shop work on your car and have it done so that it is "good enough", and not done right. I hate to say this but if you are not smart enough to know that a shop has to do a job right then you get what you deserve.

My car has leaky valve seals and it smokes a decent amount at lights and on start up. I would actually like to see what would happen with no valve seals at all.
