This is my first DSM car I have ever owned. I dont know much about them but its a blast to drive! I know nothing about DSM's. I want to learn about these now, and i dont mind being criticized and laughed at, because that's what happens on forums! I am a prior SR20DET Swaped 240SX owner. This car had no O2 sensor housing, and now I am confused. Whats the point of an O2 sensor housing? Can I get rid of it when I go top mount and put the O2 Sensor in the down pipe? Can I move the O2 Sensor further down away from the turbine exit? Im looking at how much one O2 sensor housing costs, then the turbo, the manifold, the exhaust, and all the turbos' plumbing and I am amazed! I never knew that this vehicle had such a unique turbo system! How do you all here not lose your mind? LOL. On a serious note I am going to have my friend build a custom top mount manifold, and we are going to use a T3 flanged turbo and a tial 44mm wastegate. If i have to replace all the parts anyways, i want a nice clean set up. Anybody have pictures of top mount set-ups? I want to check them out! Thanks for all the help and time to read this thread. any help is appreciated!

You don't need an O2 housing for the setup you are planning. It is fine to put the O2 sensor in the down pipe. The O2 housing from the stock setup is mainly used to combine the wastegate and turbine flows from the turbo into the exhaust in an economical cast piece so the car would be cheaper to make.

Thank you! You explained it nice and well. I did notice a lot of the fastest dsm cars are running Mitsu flanged turbos, but i dont want that head ache. I like simple.
