Hello, brought my TSi about 4weeks ago, the guy I bought it from didn't know what he was doing(at least it seemed like it to me) and i don't know how he has treated my baby . Anyways, I did all important maintance things i could think of. Today i did a compression test an they were; 1:125, 2:125, 3:145, 4:150. i then did a wet compression test on cylinders 1 & 2 (didn't see the need to do it on cylinders 3 & 4 since they were OK ) and the readings were 1:150, 2:145. Does this mean the rings in 1 & 2 are bad? I've been wanting to do a leak-down test, but i don't have one. I was wanting to make more power(adding a FMIC, Exhaust and some other stuff later), but I'm not sure why compression is low. How much could it withhold before needing rebuild? Any advice is good, thanks for your time:thumb:(sorry if there are any grammar errors)

If I had to guess, you need new rings and here is why, you have 3 pistons reading low, two really low.

Usually if it is 2 running low 2 running optimum compression, it is going to be a head gasket. In this case the third is only running slightly low, still could potentially be a head gasket. However, wet tests usually do not resolve gasket issues as the compression loss is after the cylinder bore. Therefore, wet tests almost always indicate blown or worn rings. You need to take the head off no matter, so check the gasket and if it is in good shape, well you know what then.

how many miles are on it?

It has 94,645 miles on it i put about 200miles on it(need to get to work, school)Like i was saying I don't know what the previous owner did to it, the "genius" had the MBC on backwards:banghead: and it would build up 15+ psi. would i just pull the engine out and rebuild it or would i be able to leave the engine in, remove the oil pan and head? im just curious because i would be doing all the work myself(i love auto class) and i doubt anyone in town would touch it anyways(not like I'd want them to) This is my only car to get around in. I was wanting to rebuild it its just money and time are an issue. What prices would i be looking at?
