ok, if someone could help me out that'd be great.

from what i've read compressor surge is when air is forced back into the compressor. it generally makes a fluttering noise. i've also read that you should move it to a softer setting when you get compressor surge, but don't most people get surge when they let off the gas?

I've got a greddy type-s venting and 16g and when i'm accelerating with low boost (ex. accelerating in 5th from 50ish) around 0-5 psi i hear this fluttering. how could air be forced back into the compressior and how do i fix it. it was running perfect venting before but know i hear the flutter.

thanks

Are you sure you're not hearing the blow off valve fluttering as opposed to noise from the turbo. At any positive boost level you shouldn't have any compressor surge.

this subject has also peaked my intrest as i have a gm maft setup with a hks ssq, when every i shift under boost or when i let off the gas while the turbo is creating boost my bov flutters like a old man farting in a empty bath tub.

so how can i fix this my current setup is a pte scm50, fmic w/ short route and lots of other stuff ( check profile ) help me out a lil pleaz

The HKS SSQV will open and shut really fast on its smaller valve, what you need to do is adjust the screw in the back so that above 8-10 psi the larger valve opens giving you a single large whoosh from the bov.

no i'm not sure what it is. i just figured it was compressor surge but it didn't make sense to have it when getting boost. i guess i'll try venting it harder. anything else i can do?

The BOV is telling you to run more boost.

That isn't compressor surge. Compressor surge occurs when the turbo spools up "too fast". The engine isn't able to pull that much air in at that rpm and throttle position. And the compressor then surges. I get some surge on my 2.4 L motor, and a big 16g, but only when i'm accelerating at low throttle positions. What you are experiencing is just bov flutter. Most aftermarket BOV's that i've heard do that at low boost. The valve just opens and closes really fast, making the farting sound. Venting the bov isnt really the best thing to do either, unless you are running a blowthru maft or something similar.

i don't think i'm comfortable running more than 20 psi on a stock bottom end
