Any one have any oppinion on which way they would go?

I am looking for ~300 hp at the wheel holding potential. Obviously the Competition Stage 2 is cheaper, but is it as good of a quality?

I've had the CFDF for about 3 years, and about 50k+ miles on it. Havent had any issues with it, close to stock pedal feel and no problems holding power. I highly recommend :thumb:

I have the competition stage 4 with the 6 puck no problems yet launching it at 18 psi (2step).

I cant say anything about competition clutch, but I had the CFDF for about 12k before selling my last car. It held countless awd launches, being burnt once, and just general highly spirited driving on a regular basis. I never got to the dyno, but Dsmlink estimated 350 hp. I loved the pedal pressure with the clutch fluid accumulator on the trans removed. It was a great clutch for me and it held up to the for the person who purchased it from me too.

I have the Competition Clutch Stage 2 and both Marti from SBR and I enjoy it. Reportedly good for 400whp with excellent street manners, it is a full face after all.

I didn't even bother looking at the CFDF. It seems it's a long forgotten solution for our cars. I remember clearly, the numerous failures and the high cost so I didn't even consider it when purchasing my last clutch. Who knows, maybe the reports were overrated and it's a fantastic part. I've just heard very few good things about the CFCD and durability.

The Competition clutch is also the template for SBR's entire line up of clutches.

Just got my competition stage 2 installed but making a grinding noise. i'm hoping it goes away once broken in.

I'd say unlikely. Are your fulcrum ball and clutch fork new or old? How old? Did you shim the pivot ball? Does it operate normally, otherwise?
The grinding makes me think something is getting in contact with the pressure plate, for one reason or another.

Separately, I also wanted to mention that the Competition Clutch stage 2 is a smelly clutch when slipped. I rarely smell it driving forwards, but in reverse it's almost common to smell the disk when I'm maneuvering around the parking lot.

Just to add about the CFDF:

I have had one for the past 2+ years. It came with the car and the previous owner had it for about another 2 years. Neither of us launch the car so it hold up perfectly and has yet to show ANY signs of being old. When it get's hot from slipping it a little too much, it actually gets MORE aggressive bite wise. You couldn't ask for a better mannered street clutch that will still hold the power. It is particularly well suited on mid horsepower FWD cars too.

The only thing I would ever run in my car besides the CFDF would be either a CFDFX or a twin disc.

The fork/ball are used. I actually bought a new fork and ball but the shop who installed my clutch didn't get them installed because the parts didn't show up in time. I guess I'm going to have to go back up there tomorrow. I haven't noticed any smells out of the clutch though.

No matter what, take it back.

Is that happening whenever you clutch in, or is that at full release? What are you doing when the sound is happening? Is the pivot ball shimmed?

Have you tried to adjust the master cylinder rod? Try adjusting it for MEGA free play at the top - yet still just enough to properly disengage the clutch. Does the sound still happen?
