Toronto,
Hey everyone , I have a serious issue

My vehicle a 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS-T has some issues with its following suspension parts

Lower and Upper Control arms (Front section)
Ball Joints
Tie Rod

A friend of mine was able to get me a nice 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX front clip with all the suspension elements ... that I need of course

I checked on about 3 sights and noticed that the part numbers for the contrnol arms and what not are the same (and tie rod)

does this mean the awd / fwd control arms / tie rods are identical and compatible with eachother

this is an urgent matter

if you can help please do so

thanks in advance

I believe there was a recall for those parts, you may want to check with your local dealer you could get them replaced for free.

There is a recall on the ball joints over....i hit some speed bumps at some high speeds and messed up my balljoints n tie rods/lower control arms....i took it to the dealer the estimate was like 980 i was pist i did some reasearch ....and the ball joints are still under recall ...called them up...they said that it would be like 390 or something like that....so i got them to replace the ball joints for free and the control arm n tie rods basically for 390 or something like that so take it to ur local dealer n tell them u want your ball joints replaced...good luck....

The ball joints are not replaced under the provisions of the recall just because the driver damaged them or the car. Control arms being bent, frame damage and other problems with the car is not a justification to replace components that were covered by a recall.

Just because you tell them you want the ball joints replaced does not mean you're going to get them replaced. They have to be inspected, measured and the appropriate repair made to correct a condition that calls for it's repair under the recall.

well thats a given...any company isnt just gonna jack it up n start workin on it i had mine looked at first...but i told them i wanted whatever work to the suspension that needed to be done to fix the problem and i let them kno that the recall on the balljoints is still in effect and they said okay....the recall is mainly for those who have had there car checked/not checked and if it was checked and they sprayed them with a sealent then i dont think they replace them for free....im not completly sure but i think they should be replacing them for life...if theres no foul play...like goin n hittin pot holes n bumps things of that sort....but thats as much as i kno on the subject

If the vehicle is of the Eagle brand then most chrysler dealerships honor the recall for the life of the car regardless of whether or not the repairs have been performed before or not.

If it's a mitsubishi it's a one shot deal only. Once it is inspected, resealed (brushed not sprayed), or replaced then it is no longer an active recall. Mitsubishi will not replace/repair a recall component time and time again.

that sounds cool... i think mine were replaced before by previous owner at dealer but its good to know...

The recall did include your 95 as well because it is a second generation. I cannot tell you however if the recall has been done before or not so I don't know if you are still able to have the lower lateral arms replaced at no charge.

well soon i will be taking the car to the shop for a new timing belt so what should i ask them? will they check for me???

Some places will, other's won't. It's quick easy money and one of the few recalls where a tech can actually make some money instead of lose their butt. So it's in their interest to look for recalls. On the customer relations side of it... a dealership will earn more trust by informing the customer of the recall and fixing it. So again... it's in the dealership's best interest to go ahead and take care of it.

In the event you want to make sure it gets done, checked or has been done, ask them to search your vehicles history through Mitsubishi for any open recalls. If none are found, ask for information as to when all previously performed recalls were performed.

You may want to have the tech check the ball joints regardless of the recall status. Most of the tech's I know do NOT bother checking the ball joints. Instead we replace them. The reason being that even though a ball joint may pass the inspection, it still has a good chance of failing later. At least if we replace it then that covers our butts and makes the driver better off anyways. So just have them check the ball joints and report their findings.
