2G Comparison: 1995-99 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder versions?

I assume you mean differences between the Spyder GS and the hardtop coupe GS?

There are several differences. The information below is for the 1998 & 1999 model years since you asked about the 1999 model year specifically. I didn't look at earlier models to see what (if anything) may have changed. 🤷‍♂️

The obvious stuff:
While both the GS Coupe and Spyder had naturally aspirated (non-turbo) engines, the hardtop coupe had a 2.0L 420A and the Spyder GS was equipped with a 2.4L 4G64. Other obvious differences are that the soft-top convertible meant changes to some of the interior trim and quarter windows, and of course the car had a trunk instead of a hatch.

Beyond those basics, the base Spyder was sort of weird in that it was more like an RS than a GS, but yet, different.

How the GS Spyder's standard equipment was like an RS Coupe:
  • 16mm Front Sway Bar
  • No Rear Sway Bar
  • Rear Drum Brakes
  • Manual Side Mirrors (but painted body colored instead of black)
  • 14 inch wheels
  • No rear spoiler
  • No fog lights
  • 5-way adjustable driver's seat
  • No cruise control
  • Fixed intermittent wiper wand
  • No side skirts

Standard equipment shared with the GS Coupe:
  • Center console arm rest
  • Body colored door handles

Standard GS Spyder equipment that was not standard on the GS Coupe:
  • Air conditioning
  • Power Windows/Locks

GS Spyder Upgrade packages:
  • Convenience Package: Security system/remote keyless entry, cruise control, Homelink Universal Transmitter
  • Appearance Package: Rear spoiler, 16" alloy wheels, six-piece side skirt, fog lights, chrome exhaust tips.

There are probably more differences, and possibly some unique stuff not shared with the hard top. I simply don't know at this time. I'm not that well-versed on Spyders, but this is what I've been able to find through observation and the 1998 and 1999 dealership brochures. Hopefully it helps.

Maybe one of the Spyder experts can chime in and add more detail? :thumb:
