I'm sorry guys if I've missed it, but I can't find anything about common boost leaks that people might have had. I have a gen 1 talon and when I get on it, it just doesn't seem like... well it doesn't feel like it's getting full boost or power from the turbo. Currently it's getting like 15 lbs of boost, but feels s l o w. Any thoughts as to where it might be leaking from? Where have you guys had leaks before that I might be able to narrow down possible leaks. A Buddy that I bought the car from did a leak test and he said it checked out ok, but I'm not sure if I believe him or not. Thoughts Please!!!

common spots to check:

IC piping, TB shaft seals, TB elbow, BOV, injector seals

You can also build yourself one of these to check. I think I picked up the parts for under $10 and pieced it together in about 15 mins. Connect to your turbo compressor housing and pressurize to approx 15-20lbs and listen. Boost leaks will hiss and change tone when you run your finger/hand over them. Hope that helps. Good luck

reebistsi has the main ones down, but also dont forget about the pcv valve, that is a common leak if it hasnt been replaced recently. You can't always hear leaks so sometimes soapy water sprayed over those areas will help identify a leak. good luck

I Need to check for leaks myself i think the thing on this site to check for boost leaks is what I am going to use. Thats a good idea also to use the soapy water that way you can find leaks you might not be able to see.

I think I had a leak at all of the places that ReebisTSI mentioned!! It's not too difficult to make your own, but if you're really lazy you can buy one pre-made from MACH V.

Definitely use soapy water too. Let us know if you have any problems checking. :thumb:

Take it easy

Another thing...dont be alarmed if you are doing a boost leak by capping off the turbo inlet and you hear air coming from around the compressor/center section area. This is normal for a static boost leak test. Air will also make its way into the crankcase and you will also hear some bubbling of oil. Dont worry this is normal, I usually try and do a test right after the turbo, so you dont have to deal with this air and bubbling, it's easier to isolate leaks then.

SO did the leak test. Didn't seem to have any leaks anywhere other than the normal of what you guys had mentioned. Did a little bit of work to the exhust and it seems to be a little bit better. More flow I think helped it out a little bit. I think it's high time to spend this weekend with the car, data logger, and the fuz buster and see what can't be narrowed down from there!!!
