So my question is, do you think that I need to make some sort of splash guard for the bottom. Let me know what you think! Thanks

naw your filter should be fine as long as you dont go splashin through 3 feet puddles or somethin..my filter sits in the same spot but on the drivers side, and i live in seattle and ive never had a problem..even if it gets a lil wet your fine cause the water will evaporate before entering the engine..just as long as it doesnt get soaked your good..might wanna look for a filter cover cause your filter will probably get dirty pretty fast

I was always told water is a problem for the filter ONLY if the filter is fully submerged.. i think it regular daily driving it will be fine (unless a flood ;) )

I didnt read all the posts so this is probably already said ;)

I used to have a CAI and one night it rained pretty damn bad and I ran right into a huge puddle and it died on me right there in the puddle ... Had to push that damn thing like a mile home at midnight by myself and it sucked LOL ... Then I went and got a bypass valve and they do help, someone did some kind of test on them

Hello? I just stated I had run an intake pipe off of 3 setups, On two cars, Down in the bumper. If you have a MAFS on the car, Obviously when it rains, The car is going to RUN LIKE SHIT... In this case, And mine... Him and I, Both did not have MAFS ont he intake pipe, As you can obviously see. ALSO, I've ran my srt4 with the filter down in the bumper.

NOTHING ever happened, To ANY of my cars. Have you ever even tried this, Or are you just going by what you THINK, Or what you HEARD? Please do not spread this ridiculous information about how you're going to suck up all this water and ruin your motor. Please re-think what you said, And then maybe post.

If you MAFS isn't there, then where is it? I live in NY and I will be driving this thing in the snow on rare occassions. For example. I am at college. Wheather Man predicts light snow by 4 o'clock. INstead it starts at 1 o clock, and we have to take a test for my next two classes(bad timing) when I got out at 4:30ish (suppose to gewt out at 5 but teacher ended it b/c snow got that bad) It took me an hour and half to get home. Usually take me 20 min doinf 60-65.

What happens when this thing hits snow? Why not use a oil soaked filter?

It's 7 o'clock in the Am just woke up after 4 hours of sleep (pipe rotted in the basmement of our house. Yeah I know it suxs, I'm tired, got school and them a 10 hour day f owkr grr! So if I am missing anything please chime in.

Well if you look at the pics you will notice he is running a blow through set up.;)

Hydrolock is over rated. We had to drive my friends Lance through a damn flooded road in order to get that damn thing to hydrolock. And I mean, shit... The water was right around the door and it finally hydrolocked once we hit a pothole and had water flying over the hood and windsheild. So normal rain and snow shouldnt be a problem!

I guess it sounds like i should be alright. I might try to make a skid plate kind of thing for the bottom of the bumper today to protect the filter from rocks and stuff.

I will change it back to the normal spot if i plan on doing any hardcore mudding

Just posting this up here for security and to just prove everyone else right. but my dad has a c/a on his honda and it sits in the exact spot but its closer to the wheel well on the passenger side so theres constant water flow to that filter when its driven in the rain. and nothing has ever happend. you should be fine.

I have a CAI with a proper K&N filter on my non-turbo daily driver and I have hydrolocked the engine, however I was going very slow (insane rain, 0 visibility) and at like 1500rpm, so this huge wave came and the engine died. I tried restarting and my starter shorted instantly.

Replaced the starter a few days later and it took a few tries but the engine started and has run fine since then. So I had luck. But it really is hard to hydrolock, I drove some time in this insane rain and only when the big wave came that pretty much drowned the whole filter did the engine die. Good I was at very low rpm so nothing broke.

It might not ever happen....but what if you're the unlucky one? I'm just to anal about my car to take unnecessary chances when safer options are available. Definitely your call.

My $0.02.

I was going to say this... It may seem unlikely, but what if it does happen? Is your intake temp being a couple degrees colder really worth risking your entire engine? I'm sure you'd get the same (if not larger) gains from a water injection system. And with WI, you don't risk your motor.

i think hydrolocking is more deadly on an n/t where the water travels straight through the pipe to manifold, but on a turbo car it has too much traveling like mentioned above to reach the intake manifold, and even then the water will be broken down substantially going through the turbine, and just because of the fact its extremely hot will break the water down.... Also bypass valves arent recommended on turbocharged engines because they risk getting sucked in... I think he should just make a plate covering the filter from the front view of the car so rain would actually be cascading around it when it hit the shield ( and no this would not hurt cold air gains it doesnt have to have the cold air directly hitting it, it will suck the air in, all it needs to be is just down there out of engine bay and its good ) Im planning on doing one myself eventually just not as far down in there as the original posters filter was. Also with keeping the rpms low during rain it wouldnt have enough suction to pick the air up and carry it that far anyways, only worry is just getting water into the mass and messing that up in my opinion.
