So my question is, do you think that I need to make some sort of splash guard for the bottom. Let me know what you think! Thanks

You should get a new filter. One that is Oil soaked/coated. Keep the water out as well as a filter b/w the filter and pipe.

How long did it take you to do that? If not long, Drive around till rain comes and then just change it.

yea. i still wounldnt chance it even if u plan not to drive it in the rain. ud have to pay close attetion to the weather all day

I doubt I will keep it there for too long, I dont want to chance it sucking up too much water. I wonder how much of an intake temp change it made? I cant log the intake temps because the maf translator clamps the signal.

I have a cold air on my GS that I have and it sits in the same spot as yours on the opposite side. I deliver food and it was raining bad, but it was my last delivery, didn't see it, hit a huge puddle... long story short... bent a rod.

I doubt a shield will help besides a shield will just make it the same temp as it would have been before maybe a little cooler.

I think its AEM that makes a sleeve to put over the filter for CAI's you might want to look into one of those.

Sorry to say it but who ever said that if he runs through a puddle, He's screwed, Is completly wrong. First of all, His MAFS is in his uicp. Second, By the time the water go into the filter, Through the intake/turbo/licp/fmic/uicp, Do you really think that water is going to get all the way up to the intake manifold, And go into the motor?? I think not, If any, It would be nothing that will cause damage.

Nice job on the intake, Good thinking. I did the same with a 4" piece of ss pipe that I had.

Alot of people In my area have the New Cobalt SS. All of them have their intake right where you have it placed. All of them swear on the Oil soaked filter plus the filter inside the piping b/w filter and adapter. Go to Cobaltaddiction.com. See if the owner can fab you up a pipe. Talk to my best Boy, Big Gian and say Pattay sent you. He will try his best to help you out!

Hello? I just stated I had run an intake pipe off of 3 setups, On two cars, Down in the bumper. If you have a MAFS on the car, Obviously when it rains, The car is going to RUN LIKE SHIT... In this case, And mine... Him and I, Both did not have MAFS ont he intake pipe, As you can obviously see. ALSO, I've ran my srt4 with the filter down in the bumper.

NOTHING ever happened, To ANY of my cars. Have you ever even tried this, Or are you just going by what you THINK, Or what you HEARD? Please do not spread this ridiculous information about how you're going to suck up all this water and ruin your motor. Please re-think what you said, And then maybe post.

I agree with 1993eclipsegs you would have to run it submerged for it to do any thing a little splash wont hurt alot of people have cold air on there cars roght there and they still seem to run fine I dont thnik you will have a problem unless you plan to run it in a foot of water.

By the time the water had a chance to even get all the way to the intake manifold, It would all have evaporated already, Leaving hardly any, If any at all, To get into the engine. It would need to go through the turbo (Don't you think the compressor wheel spinning that FAST, Would evaporate the water? Then, Through the licp, All the way through the intercooler, Through the uicp etc....

I live where it SNOWS, HEAVILY! He does not need a by-pass valve, It would be a waste of money. I've driven in the rain/snow/sleet/hail/mud/ EVERYTHING, For well over a year, With no ill side effects. My c/a intake was like the mail man... Goes through anything.

Listen to the veterans around here. Everybody just states what they hear. I myself have no experience from a filter at that location, BUT i have read the numerous threads regarding this topic on here many times. If you want to reference it just do a search. And many from experience have no problem, even when it rains. The only time it will be a problem is if you submerge your entire car in water, which I highly doubt you'll be doing.

Of course it doesn't hurt to be safe, in which case you have options, that ebay shield, or bypass.

If all else fails and you're worried about it, just keep the old intake in the car, and if you think it's going to rain or has rained recently, just unbolt the CAI intake tubes and stick the regular intake tube on the turbo. You don't have to mess around with a MAS anymore, so it shouldn't take more than five minutes to switch them.

a few months ago i was caught in a storm in my Srt4 with a CAI and thanks to Alb not having drainage systems a wave a water engulfed my car. my car ended up with water in the cylinders, and a lot of it. now i have a new motor and a Short ram.
