alright I think i've read all of the posts but i cant get an answer. i bought a coil on plug setup and have a bj's intake(so i cant mount the regular coils in the same spot). i got everything on and it seems to almost misfireunder regular load. its wired correct. also what is the thing thats mounted on the stock coil setup(im told its a spark amplifier, like 9 wire or so)? is it just a tuning problem?any help would be great. 97gsx

if i remember correctly my gap on the plugs are 28. and how do i check the coils besides getting shocked? if i go back to the stock setup besides msd wires can i order another set of wires and use the longer ones to replace the short ones that i am currently using so the coils will reach the firewall?

and how do i check the coils besides getting shocked?

Pull one coil out at a time and put a screwdriver in the end of it. Lay the coil on its side with the metal part of the screwdriver almost touching the vc. Have a friend turn the engine over. If you see it spark, its good, if not then theres your problem.

If you want to check the coils right, you can find out what they are from and get the measurments for resistance across the coils. Then test the resistance with a multimeter. That will tell you if they are withing factory specs.

There have been may problems posted about these 300m coil packs. Some say wireing, some say Power transistor is not capable of charging coils long enough and some say it works GREAT. I don't know why there is such a variation in results but this is what I thought of to try to remove any issues with wireing and charging amprage for these coils packs. If you want try it be my guest.

BTW: the circular object on the left side of diagram is key switch(tap ACC2 to turn on relay)
I am currenty building a harness for this setup, just waiting to get new pins for coil pack plugs. I am using cathode ray wire for my positive leads (rated for 15,000 volts and is pure silver wire, 18AWG) but standard copper 14AWG wire should be more than sufficiant.
hope this helps

thanks for the help guys! i have been really busy the past couple of days so i should be able to check everything by this weekend and let you guys know what the deal is. what i meant by regular load is driving down the road with no boost or anything. also is anyone aware of a plug wire set that will work with mounting the stock coils in the a/c compressor spot. i've called a couple of places and they dont know of anything, they will just sell me the mounting kit, but as you know thats really not going to help unless i can get the wires to the head! thanks again.

ok, so it was a bad coil. back to the stock setup again i guess. wow that was a lot of money for nothing. im not even going to waste my time on it again.
