Been driving my car for a while with no shift issues besides some random griding in 2nd .I started on my way to work today with no issues. stopped to get coffoe and gas pulled away from pump no problem. stopped at road to wait to pull out and now it wont go into gear to drive off. i force it into first to pull out then force it into the rest of the gears to get going. went home instead of work no fluid in resovior no leaks that i noticed either. Bleed clutch, start car still no shift but feels better bleed it again now it shifts cool, i take if for a ride. i dont even make it out of my neighbor hood and it wont shift again. so it seems to work for a little bit after i bleed it but it quickly starts to mess up again. slave or master cylinder / both? i dont think its the clutch because the pedal feels softer and it works fine for like 15 shifts after bleeding.

any ideas would be awsome!!!

Thank you,

"No fluid in reservoir" If it's not leaking then the brake fluid fairy must be creeping in your engine bay. Something's gone bad. I suggest checking the inside driver footwell for fluid.

I hadnt had the top off of the resiover in a long time. so it may have been leaking slowly but i have never noticed a puddle or wet spot in any of the usual places but either way i bled it twice today and it still does this now that the system has been bled and the fluid topped off? Like i said it works for a little while right after i bleed but after not many shifts it starts to mess up again.

Thank you,

Man, my friends jeep has been doing this for YEARS, the fluid levels are fine, we bleed it it works, then at random intervals it will loose all pressure, sometimes it lasts for monts (i've seen it go 6 months with no issue) and sometimes it needs done 3 times a day

**edit, just re-read and noticed you had an empty resevior (so my jeep thing doesn't apply but i'll leave it written)

Here's a list of what Ive personally done to this vehicle to try adn fix it

2 new slave cylinders (inside bell housing on this model)

2 new clutches at same times

1 new master cylinder

The only thing that hasn't been done is replace the clutch line with a new one, which there's no visible leaks that can be found but there are some couplers i suspect leak at some points letting aiur in but no fluid out

My recomendations to you.. ** with you saying the fluid levels were empty but no visible leaks i bet your master is leaking inside the cabin, you won't notice it without looking because it wil drip and go under the carpet.. I had a friend who kept filling his up for so long the fluid soaked the carpet from underneath, it wqas so bad he replaced the carpeT LOL. Just take a flashlight and look under the dash where the rod from the master comes in the car, see if there's fluid around it or dripping into the floorboard.

But by all basic logic, if it's bled, doesn't leak and has fluid the problem can only be in the master or slave, one might have an internal part that is damaged or sticking both can be rebuilt for under 30 bucks for both kits, or you can replace them both for about 30- -50 each (one cost more, I paid 28 for my last slave and 40 some bucks for my last master - I have to replace them every few years with the ACT 2900 PP in my car, and when one goes the other is right behind it so i replace them as pairs )

let us know when you figure it out

My car was doing the exact same thing. Where the hose goes into the slave cylinder there's a nut over the hose ferrel. It was snapped almost the whole way replaced it and was fine. Check that. Hope this helps n you find the problem this problem sucks. Especially when you on vacation 6 hours away and have to stop every 20-30mins refill n bleed it again LOL.

Replace the master cylinder which was actualy seeping inside the black rubber sleve inside the fire wall but wasnt really coming out terribly. bled the heck out of it. bled the slave as well. still does the same thing. the slave is still so wet from bleeding it its soaked with brake/clutch fluid so im just goin to replace it and see what happens since they are cheap and easy to replace. oh and the resiover is full even while its doing this. im not saying its not leaking somewhere but i dont loose signifigant fluid that i know of if at all now. but ya still even when i first start the car no problems but once it warms / or looses pressure ? it stops shifting, i can force into gear i when i was limping it home the first day but ya clutch for a while then no clutch. the fluid is also nasty black?

Thank you,

It sat for a day or two went out to play with it and didnt shift again so and it looks like the Throw out bearing is bad so im pulling the trans tomorow.
