Yesterday, I was driving on the highway. And my clutch wouldn't disengaged. I turned my car off and it slid in and out of gear just fine. I need to know what is wrong. I am due to a different city tomorrow about three hours away. There is no loose bolts from the transmission to the engines. Could it be an internal bell housing? Could I have a clutch leak? What are the possibilities. My clutch has 10K on it as does the pressure place. Are there any suggestions? Thanks!

slave cylinder, master cylinder, bent fork, these are some things you might want to take a look at. For the fork part you need to take the tranny out or just see how far back it goes from just looking at it. And for your master and slave check if they have leaks at all. The master usually leaks from the inside. check your floor mat or carpet for any clutch fluid..

okay, is there a way that i can bypass it til i get to the other city. Its about 3 hours away... any suggestions?

man other than checking what he said i would try to get it fixed before getting on the road. good luck!

I am all for that but... family day and presidents day means I can get it on the road til Tuesday.

is there an easy way to diagnose a bent fork? Will it wiggle easily and stuff? or will it be too hard to tell?

It's most likely a leaking slave cylinder or clutch master cylinder. Check the level of the fluid first and if it's full, check the slave and master cylinders. If it is a leak in one of those two, I would highly recommend replacing the leaking part with a new oem one. If you don't you'll find yourself having to wedge your foot under the clutch pedal to pry it back up every time you shift.

I can not get it to shift AT ALL. I do not find any leaks around the slave cylinder but than again, it could have happened while I was on the high driving. I would hope that its not seized to the flywheel. That would be bad. They are both brand new. How would you even do that. I haven't checked the fluid level yet. But the car is outside and its dark, and I do not have access to a garage at the moment. Although I can pull the transmission out of gear but not into gear. So, I am thinking that my clutch isn't seized to the flywheel. Where would you buy a new slave/ or master cylinder?

Master will leak inside the car, slave will leak outside. Check the fluid level. The chances of a bent fork are few and far between especially since the fork is cast.

Is your clutch slipping?

sounds like what happened to me with my 90. turned out the piece of the bell housing case that the throwout bearing rests on got messed up, causing the bearing to wobble and eventually disintegrate. i could shift fine with the car off, but as soon as i cranked it, no gears at all. but i could shift in a gear, crank the car, then shift out.

my clutch does not slip. it is brand new. Only about 10K since the replaced clutch. The throw out bearing was replaced, and the bell housing was spotless when I put the car back together. So I am not sure. I have had no issues with clutch until now. I got the flywheel resurfaced, and so yeah. I lost a bolt to the cover of the bell housing. But only one. So, maybe some damage could have gotten done that way. But I dont think much of it.

I do not think that is it. I do have gears when I am driving. I just cant get into them. Its not like my clutch is burnt out or anything. My clutch will not disengage. Which leads me to think that a spring in my clutch popped out, or the master cylinder/slave cylinder is shot. But I do not see any evidence of that when I checked. So I am lost.

I bled the clutch today. And checked the master and slave cylinder. There appears to be nothing wrong. What about the clutch mechanical point? Anything wrong with the clutch pedals in 92?

While I was bleeding the clutch I had to do that every like 4 times I pushed on the clutch. What does this mean?

okay, I dont know how. But it is fixed. I bled the clutch line again and did a bench bleed of the slave cylinder did some work on my clutch peddle and everything works just fantastic now. Thanks for all the advice and help. I am glad that it magically fixed itself. I do not know exactly what the problem was but I am okay with how things worked out. Thanks again. I am sure that I will have some issues again.

If any of you were curious. It was my master and slave cylinder. Then my clutch burnt out less than a hundred k later. Stupid mechanic.... should've done it myself. No one is more reliable than you.
