so the car run fine but everytime i put the clutch peddle to the ground i hear this soft screeching noise cominf from it seems the clutch area. it only makes this sound when im ou the clutch though. i just had a whole engine and tranny rebuild so im trying to firgure out why it makes this noise. i really home its not crankwalk... any help would be nice. thanks alot

yea i just showed it to my friend and he said it soulded like the throwout bearing goin bad. i do sometimes feel the clutch get alittle soft during left turns but hopefully its just me. LOL i really dont need crankwalk after a full rebuild. ill just bleed the clutch n see what happens.

Well the difference is that I've always heard that the TOB makes noise when the clutch pedal isn't depressed, then the noise goes away once you press it. Now when they blow up who knows what can happen?

It sounds like your clutch adjustment may be off, but don't quote me as I'm just learning about clutches since I'm doing mine on my own at the moment, but I would take it to a shop and see what they say, especially if it was a shop that did the tranny rebuild as they might warranty the work.

Hopefully helping here from a few people that deal with dsm. When pushing the clutch in and the car dies and when you let off the clutch and the car starts back up is a symptom of crankwalk. From what i hear crankwalk is about 1% of the 7 bolt motors. Everyone has a theory on that but i seem to hear that tossed around alot more often. People that blow up there motor seem to just blame crankwalk but if you were to diagnose the problem its probably something simplar.

yea the car doesnt shut off when i push the clutch in, i just hear this little noise like somethings gringing against something. i only have 50o miles on the rebuilt motor n tranny so i doubt it would be crankwalk. ill checkout the TOB and replace it n see what happens. shouldnt be anything major

ok so i was reading through the forums and i read that if you press the clutch in and the noise goes away then its the TOB. but mines the complete opposite. while the clutch is out there are no noises at all. but when i press the clutch down to get into gear the noise starts and goes away agina once i depress it. confused here :banghead:

If it sounds like air its your "release bearing" going bad if you don't fix it it will burn your clutch up then you will need a whole new clutch kit and FYI if you have a lot of miles in the clutch go ahead and get the whole new kit it will save you in the long run

i wouldnt really say it sounds like air but it is a pretty quiet sound. i have about 10000 on the act2100 so it should still hold for some time. but im thinkin if upgrading the clutch neways to hold the e316g. i just hope it isnt a sign of crankwalk. i will drive around in left circles in a parkin lot tomorrow to see if i can feel the clutch gettin soft just to make sure

i look the car and drove it around in left hand circles and the clutch does get kinda soft and spongy, but it never actually gets stuck at the bottom. this doesnt happen when i tried it to the right. am i pretty much screwed??

I don't know much about crankwalk but if it doesn't happen when you turn to the right then you just might be screwed like you said. But test it again and make sure that it's just not paranoia getting the best of you and making you think that it's different when really it's not.

Maybe have someone else test it out for you, that way they won't be biased at all.

after driving around today i could def tell the clutch gets sloppy sometimes during left turns. and that noise is coming from the timing belt area, so its not the TOB. ill check for movement of the crank sometime soon, but im pretty much sure its walking :( gonna look into a 6 bolt swap too see how much it would cost of i might just have to get rid of it. its been causing me soo much trouble. and i just rebuilt the enging n tranny not even 600 miles ago, things just keep on goin bad for my eclipse

Your description if a soft pedal makes me think you`ve got a hydraulic issue. Your car`s 13 years old now. Has the master or slave cylinder ever been replaced?

The noise makes me think TOB. Did you use an OEM or ACT TOB. Some people have had issues with the ACT TOB.

It`s a long shot, but the clutch adjustment rod could be off. Does the pedal feel like it`s engaging the clutch at the correct pedal height?

the clutch definitly doesnt feel like how it before before i rebuilt the engine. but it looses pressure pretty bad during some left hand turns, and i was thinking TOB too but the noise is coming from the lover timing belt area, not the tranny area. so what do you guys think, crankwalk?? still havent been able to check for crank play

I would definitely make sure your hydraulic system is up to par as well as adjustment
You might want to try and remove the accumulator that is on 2gs or even the slave restrictor?
Although pretty uncommon in 2gs, but is your pedal assembly worn?
Go over the clutch stuff before you assume its crankwalk
