ok my car is very hard to get into all the gears without grinding. i will have the pedal all the way down and i have to trow it into gear real hard befor it will go. i bleed it about 4 times and it didnt help much. the clutch it fully engages about a 1/3 of the way from the ground.

what should i do? ive heard of taking the colum out and welding something on the clutch pedal assembly but could that be it.

allright well the pedal has alot of play in it due to the bracket might be broken i think so im goin to take the steering colum apart and see if that is it.

See you probably answered your own question. On hydraulic systems there is no play in the pedal. If yours is loose then something is worn or broken. Fix the pedal then have someone watch under the car as you press the pedal down and see how far the clutch arm moves. Don't just start throwing parts at it until it is fixed. You need to find the problem first. Keep us posted. Travis

I agree first off u need to find out if clutch is engaging; cause i have seen pressure plates that cause this problem .....

get a new slave and if it conetinues get an extened slave cylinder rod. It fixed the same problem on my friends 2g.
here is the link to it on extremepsi

NO NO NO NO NO!!!!

The extended rod is a hoax, it does not work. I'm sick of people suggesting in, when none of them have a clue how the hydralic clutch system works on our cars.

I keep saying this (over and over and over and over...) using a extended rod is like putting a band-aid on a bullet wound. It fixes nothing.

You diagnoise the problem and THEN find a solution. If you just throw random parts at the car, you end up spending LOTS of money and not fixing anything.

In this case, it's obvious that there is play in the pedal (as stated). Probably because of the master and/or slave cylinder was failing and was never fixed. This required more pedal effort to disengage the clutch and lead to a worn clutch pedal assembly.

First find out of you are leaking clutch fluid from under the dash, on the rod of the master clutch cylinder (this is NOT fun). If that is the case, check the play in the pedal. A little play in normal for an old car, but if you are getting more the 1/4" You need to rebuild the clutch pedal assembly.

ok well i did the clutch pedal assembly fix and it help now it engages when it should half way from the floor but im still havin the hardest time shiftin. it is so hard to get it into 2nd 4thand reverse and then 1st too. need help on that bad.

Check one thing. Is the clutch fork in the middle of the opening on the tranny? That is where it should be. If it's closer to the passenger side then your clutch will disengage lower in the pedal travel (closer to the floor). Then we can tell if it is a problem with your master or slave cylinders or if your clutch/pressure plate/clutch fork/pivot ball/throw out bearing is the problem. Check this and post back.

Search around, there's a bunch of info on this issue.

Guess its to late to help you with the pedal assembly since you already did it. If you decide to replace the master/slave cylinders I HIGHLY recommend that you use Mitsubishi parts. There is the possibility that your synchros are trashed from the grinding that they endured.

Do a few searches, there are dozens (if not hundreds) of threads on this.

yeah my throw needed to be fixed and the shifter bushings were shot so im doing the skateboard bearing mod. im also going to replace the master and slave with mistu parts and if that dont work ill rebuild the tranny. i think my syncros might be worn a little but i want to put off the tranny rebuild till this summer
