So my slipping clutch finally passed away (I think), now I'm looking for replacement piece and really dont know much about clutches. First of all I want to make sure that it is clutch and nothing else that died. Here are symptoms: at first I noticed that after drag strip(I did smell burning clutch for sure) while I driving more often pas 10psi my rpm would climb p quick but car's speed would barely increase, so since I never experienced slipping clutch I guess that what it was right? Then my clutch pedal began to sink further and further towards the floor and clutch pedal travel is about an inch now. At first it would shift harder and harder in the first two gears and now would not go in the gear at all while car is running, it would start to grind if I force it in and slowly move forward. Once the car off shifter would go in each gear with ease. So my guess is that the clutch itself is gone?

Now I started to look for replacement unit and was told that I have to replace clutch and pressure plate also. Can I replace just the clutch? And can leave fywheel the way it is? I dont know what clutch to buy, so after some research I found a guy with real Spec stage 2 clutch brand new in a box for $320, its a little to much for me. Another clutch that I am considering is XTD stage 4 kit of the ebay for $169, one guy on here runs it in his car and says its fine, no issues so far after almost a year. Im not planing to go over 320whp and possibly going to sell the car so would XTD stage 4 get the job done? if not any recommendations?

Hey, the initial symptoms of the rev's climbing but not accelerating is a classic sign of a slipping clutch. especially when trying to do a pull in the upper gears and the rpm's surge. That could also be the primary culprit with your tranny not going into gear.

However, if your clutch pedal is not adjusted correctly then that could also be your problem as well. there is allot of info on here regarding clutch pedal adjustment on our cars and was shocked myself with how big a part that plays in terms of how it interacts with the master and slave cylinders to engage and disengage the clutch. So i would check on that first to make sure your clutch is adjusted and bled properly.

As far as the clutch, i plan on getting an ACT 2600 kit that comes with pretty much everything you need for the full install. the ACT 2100 is good too if you don't plan on doing allot of hard launches repeatedly. The flywheel can just be resurfaced if required at a local shop and full replacement is not necessary unless you want to go extreme and get a fidanza lightweight unit or simmilar product.

Anyway, good luck. hope this helps.

Many people have run the XTD clutches with relatively good success rates. On the other hand, I would probably suggest going for a slightly more expensive clutch if at all possible. The Spec stage 2 that you have available seems like a good option. The Competition stage 4 clutch is what I run in my 2g, and many people have had good success with that as well. It should be pretty closely priced with that Spec clutch you are considering.

Thanks to all that replied, after little bit more research I decided to go with XTD stage 4 clutch and oem tob. Spec stage 2 is not bad at all for $300 but XTD was $178 shipped so I ordered one. I just bought new GT500 and want to do couple of things to it so I dont want to waste to much cash on a talon.

Cool, PM me to let me know how it works out for you as i am in the market for one here soon. Take care.

if your trying to save cash then pull it all apart and inspect ## PP for cracks and heat damage if its good (or allready upgraded) just buy a new disc. u can get act or clucth master discs by themselves.

Im having the same problem right now but i have an old act PP laying around and im gonna put it to see if it holds. If not thinking on getting an XTD myself.
