Clutch for 400HP TALON AWD

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

There is plenty of information on here about clutches for the setup that you would like to run. Take a look around and see what other people are using.

I've got an XTD stage 4 clutch and PP and Mitsu. OEM throw out bearing for sale.
It's for a 6 bolt awd but i think they're the same. Someone correct me if i'm wrong.
$185

no offense but isnt xtd a ebay clutch i would save the headache by going with a good setup so your not pulling the tranny to do a clutch again in the near future

Yea but so are glowshift guages and i ran them for years with no problems at all. Do a search on XTD clutches, guys are swearing by them over expensive set ups. Memebers are putting down serious boost with this set up. By the way thats for the stage 4 unsprung 6 puck like i have.

I would say if you are look at the stage 2 and 3 dont they are not strong. But if you look at the stage 4 6 puck unsrung kit you will spend 190 shipped and it hold as good or the same as the 2600 ACT i had.

For the price and the durability and performance i will buy a XTD stage 4 6 puck every time

true pending on your driving habbits i wouldnt want to drive an unsprung 6 puck everyday and my clutchnet 6puck sprung drives like a full face disc and grabs and holds like a 6 puck. i dont bother with act discs any more after it failed on me i will post a pic of the full face act disc i had in there for a year. but i still use there Pressure plate.

I have heard highly of the act 2600 with southbend kevler good for 518 hp thats what I ordered I figured I would spend a little more to have peace of mind

+1^
I too have heard good things about he South Bend full-face Kevlar disk (TZ-series). I just purchased one along with their SS-series pressure plate from Tim Zimmer at TMZperformance.com (TMZ has a lower price shipped than what's on South Bend's website before shipping). It's reported to hold 500 ft-lb torque which will be more than enough for my e316g setup while still being extremely streetable and very easy on the flywheel and pressure plate. Tim also offers a SS-X pressure plate that SBC makes special for him. SBC doesn't even offer this pressure plate for sale on their site. It has a higer clamping force than the SS pressure plate and can take the TZ-series disk up to 600 ft-lb torque.

One thing to note, if you go with a SBC disk and use a non-SBC pressure plate, SBC will not warranty their disk should any problems arise. I got that directly from Andy at SBC.

Do a search on "Southbend" and you'll find a bunch of information here and on the other (Talk) site.

I've broke two other clutches, my Fidanza 4.3 only lasted a couple thousand miles if that (and only 2 runs down the strip). All 6 springs broke, and wedged between the fingers in my PP, making the clutch not disengage at all.

I now use an XTD solid 6-puck and it's great. I launched 15 times at the drag strip one night, most of them all right in a row. No slip, no smell. I highly recommend it, as it's the best working, and most reliable clutch setup I've had. The clutch pedal is MUCH softer than the ACT was (that pressure plate broke, and the clutch).

Get a QM twin disc and be done with needing an upgrade. They will hold anything you can throw at them for the most part, and they are fully rebuildable. I have one and love it, the best clutch I've ever had over all the ones I've used before. (xtd stg4, act 2100/2600/3200, and a exedy twin disc).

I don't believe that it is too far out of our budgets. A new fly wheel like a fidanza or act is about $200, and most good clutches are about $450, OEM tob about $40. So that is about $700 roughly, and I believe MAP had their QM twin discs on sale for about the $850 area shipped about a month back if I remember right. So that is only $150 over what a nice standard clutch setup goes for. I was just throwing out the suggestion.

I am running the XTD stage 4 pressure plate with a sprung 6 puck disc. This is my DD and traffic around here is horrible so I figured sprung would be better than unsprung. Hasn't done me wrong yet. My ACT 2600 setup went horribly wrong so I said never again.

There are some good suggestions here. I would go with a 2100 or so pressure plate with a dual friction disc. it will engage nice, hold the power, and won't eat the hell out of your flywheel. good luck either way and just do your research.
