cleaning suspension and wheel wells?

Ok i got a 1g talon with some major grim and oil build up under the car and in the wheel wells all over the struts and so forth what do you guys recommend to clean that crap off i have a small power washer to help but what cleaners should i use?

When I have the wheels off I spray everythign down with simple green and let it set for a few min then re-spray it. After that sets a few more minutes I just hose it down or use the pressure washer if I feel like getting it running (gas). It wont be spotless the first time, but after doing it a few times my stuff is pretty clean.

I would leave the oil there, it will protect everything from rust.

Having a detail shop steam clean it would be the best job. Otherwise, you might try your pressure washer and some paint-safe wheel cleaner, along with Simple Green as suggested. Figure on doing it three times.

I don't like the Rhino Liner idea, because I don't trust it to stick well enough in that application.

However you clean it, go easy around grease boots and dust shields.

Tire dressing on the wheel well plastics is a detailing trick that's often overlooked, and which can make a big difference.

I am in the process of re-doing my wheel wells and suspension. I know exactly what you mean about some of the road grime and tar that can build up under the car, and not even a steam cleaner will take it off! If it is really thick, the best thing is to start with a plastic scraper like a bondo card or something and scrape away! After finishing this, like many other members suggested: simple green or other water based degreaser. However, don't just hose it off! Even with a pressure washer this will not be as effective as scrubbing it down with a very coarsely bristled brush. After you have done this until things are looking really clean, I start to prep the area out by cleaning with a mild solvent like acetone. This will help to better clean the area and is safe on previous corrosion protection like seam-sealer and factory undercoating. After the area is all prepped out, I would spray it with truck-bed coating. I use Dupli-Color brand which is about $8 at Autozone. It is very tough and looks nice. And Defiant, if you have ever used that stuff, adhesion to a properly prepared surface is amazing! That is some of the best sticking stuff I use save maybe window-weld! Additionally, to further snazz up your wheel wells, prep and paint suspension components, and like Defiant said, use some sort of plastic conditioner or tire shine on cleaned plastics.

i detailed at a chevy dealership for a couple years and had to do this to the muddiest f**king trucks youd ever see.. and yea degreaser and some kind of brush to do some scrubbing should do the trick


if you still have the stock suspension, or you dont care about your aftermarket colored suspension, we would spray paint the wheel wells gloss black if it was a full detail and make the wheel wells look like new again and then as defiant said spray some tire shine in the wheel wells.. looks really nice

since my car is lowered on springs now i dont really care how the wells look since i will probably never see them again so i have not had to do this in a while
