painting wheel wells?

i think thats the right wording for it, my brother just bought a z71 and while i walked around inspecting it i noticed the previous owner painted all around the inside of the wheel wells?? It looked really nice having it a kinda gloss black around where the tires are/around the shocks and springs.

What im asking is has anyone tried this? if so what kind of paint did you use and how did it look/how long did it hold up? I would think that it'd be a lot easier to clean in there after you go muddin in the awd dsm since the mud would run off better since the surface is nice and smooth.

Anyway I don't hear of much gloss coating wheel wells that just sounds a little strange. Of course you can buy rubber undercarriage rubber coating in a can pretty much anywhere.

did he buy the car from a lot? most car lots get their trade ins, auction cars, whatever.. detailed before they sell them.. I used to work at a detail shop and we would paint the wheel wells, frame, rear axle, suspension parts, even the end of the exhaust.. whatever you could see that didn't look new.. all with black engine enamel, we would just paint the springs and everything.. pretty hokey to do that, but it'd look nice to mask your suspension properly and of course mask the fenders for overspray, we never did because we painted the cars before they got polished so it didn't matter.. if you want to reduce some road noise you could also get some rubberized undercoating to use instead, that's what I would do, and will do soon.

just to do donuts and have a little fun but yeah he got it from a car lot. I like how it looks better than the chalky nasty worn out look both of my dsms have, its more of a greyish black than black so i thought about painting it to make it look better

I plan on doing it as there is overspray from previous accident repairs. I was just going to use Rustoleum flat black. I took the fenders/bumper/hood off and am actually spraying everything in front of the firewall the same. The plastic fender pieces will not be painted as of right now.

I'd be weary of the paint chipping off over time and exposing bare metal underneath. God knows we don't need to provoke any causes of strut tower rust with these cars. If you want to clean it up a bit to make it shine, I'd use rubberized undercoating for everything then rub in Armor-All spray to make them shine.

I use tire shine spray on the plastic wheel well liners.
