i have a 91 awd and the guy i got the car from said it had been double synchro'd from 2nd to 4th i believe but my shifting is very choppy. doesnt grind unless your going into 3rd gear and unless you are granny shifting it will grind every time. can you guys help me out here. im lost and tired of shifting with choppiness. sometimes its kinda hard to get it into first gear coming to a stop. any ideas:confused:

Clutch probably isnt releasing all the way.

If its grinding into third, you already need to replace the syncro blocker ring, slider and gear if you want it shift 100% again.

I had issues with my double syncro 2nd. Finally followed the advice of the guy that helped with my trannsmission. Put the car up on jackstands, rev the car in gear with the clutch down. The tires would start to spin at 6000 rpm. Adjusted the clutch pedal out more and now 2nd gear is freakin awesome.

could you explain side to side shifter cable? are you talking about the linkages under the hood?
