Chilton or Haynes?

I've owned and used both and never really noticed anything that would make me stear one way or the other.

Get both. Chiltons' has stuff that the Haynes' manual doesn't and vice versa.

Get the factory service manual CD, I bought one off of Ebay fro 8.99 and it had all service and tech manuals for the 1G,2g and GVR4. Plus it had all of the Talon Digest, most of the VFAQ and some other stuff. Plus I heard some of them come with CAPS too.

no option for all of the above? I'd get both chiltons and haynes and the factory manuals (preferably hardcopy and cd, but if not just get the cds)

I bought the Haynes manual for my 91 Talon. When I bought my 92 the previous owner had the factory service manuals. I would recommened the factory ones over any others.

I have the Chiltons, Haynes, and the Factory Service Manual.

I always use the FSM and have the others as backups.

I haven't had to use the others yet

Either or man, they are just for a basic idea of what to do anyway. I normally use it to judge the time a project will take.

the manual on cd (found mine on club dsm several years ago). has 1st and 2nd gen, tsb's and a wealth of info. they should still be easy enough to find and would probably be more in depth than any chilton/haynes book.

Chilton is a better hands-on manual, but I think Hayes has some useful information as well but not for hands-on activities.

EVERYONE should own one of these. Those little cheap manuals are crap.

I started with the Chilton, and it's "decent". However, if you really wanna know everything, there's no substitute for the factory manual. I've now got the 90-98 Chiltons, 91 Mitsu, and 95 Mitsu manuals (There's also a 90-94 Haynes manual on the shelf, but it's just sitting there waiting for someone to stop by and pick it up).
